Principal Electrical Engineer Location: Winston Salem, NC, USAPosted: 2026-05-05Job Overview The Principal Electrical Engineer will lead root cause analysis and corrective action development for in‑service electrical and actuation issues across aircraft seating platforms. The role serves as the subject matter expert, driving process improvement and cross‑departmental collaboration.Responsibilities Conduct root cause analysis (5‑why, fishbone, FMEA, DOE) for electrical and actuation in‑service issues.Coordinate, prioritize and resolve technical issues across multiple teams and locations.Provide recommendations based on quantitative analysis to support product reliability, maintainability, manufacturing, safety, and cost targets.Manage technical products aligned with ESI and actuation, including JIRA tracking and internal design support.Develop and test new programs, ensuring lessons learned are incorporated into reliability testing and design reviews.Perform hands‑on troubleshooting of electromechanical systems and communication protocols such as CAN‑Bus and RS‑485.Document and present findings to cross‑functional teams and senior leadership.Travel up to 25% of the time for on‑site troubleshooting and support.Qualifications Bachelor's degree in STEM and minimum 8 years of relevant experience, or Advanced Degree with minimum 5 years of experience.Experience in electrical design, integration, and actuation of aircraft seating systems.Proficiency with communication protocols (CAN‑Bus, RS‑485) and basic electrical measurements.Strong root‑cause analysis skills and familiarity with RCCA tools.Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.Experience with microcontrollers, PCBs, and integration into mechanical systems.Excellent problem‑solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills.Preferred Qualifications 10+ years of experience in electrical system integration and actuation.Advanced knowledge of Teamcenter PLM, NX CAD, JIRA, and Altium 3D PCB design.Knowledge of aircraft seating and certification requirements.Experience with signal processing and communications engineering.Benefits Medical, dental, and vision insurance.Three weeks of vacation for newly hired employees.Generous 401(k) plan with employer match.Tuition reimbursement program and student loan repayment.Life insurance, disability coverage, and optional extended health plans.Parental leave and adoption assistance.Well‑being initiatives: virtual doctor visits, wellness rewards, and fitness subsidies.Equal Opportunity Employer RTX is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
