Principal Electrical Engineer

Position Overview

Aspen Technical Staffing is seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer for a contract-to-hire opportunity with our client in Reading, Pennsylvania. This senior-level position is responsible for providing technical leadership, electrical engineering expertise, and project oversight for complex industrial and engineering projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions while supporting multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide electrical engineering services that meet applicable codes, industry standards, regulatory requirements, project schedules, and budgets.
  • Lead and manage electrical engineering activities for multiple projects from concept through commissioning.
  • Participate in project meetings, prepare technical reports, and ensure compliance with quality control and checking procedures.
  • Define project scope and ensure all scope changes follow established change management processes.
  • Support procurement, construction, and commissioning activities by:
    • Preparing equipment and material requisitions
    • Performing technical bid evaluations
    • Assisting with purchase order development
  • Serve as the Lead Electrical Engineer on assigned projects.
  • Develop project execution plans, assign work, and provide technical direction to engineering team members.
  • Monitor project progress to ensure deliverables are completed accurately, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Resolve technical issues and coordinate solutions across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Estimate project costs and contribute technical content for proposals and client presentations.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers while promoting engineering best practices.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry standards, codes, emerging technologies, and engineering innovations.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, contractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary project teams.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Extensive electrical engineering experience within industrial, manufacturing, energy, chemical, or similar engineering environments.
  • Experience serving in a project leadership or Lead Electrical Engineer role.
  • Strong background in multidisciplinary engineering projects.
  • Experience preparing engineering estimates, technical documentation, and proposal content.
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with electrical engineering software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality technical work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
  • Experience leading engineering teams and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Strong understanding of project execution processes, budgeting, scheduling, and change management.
