Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS: • An earned master''s degree or higher from an accredited college or university; • Hold or be able to obtain a professional administration and supervision (AS) Certificate from the State of Georgia; • 5-years teaching experience preferred; and • At least 3 years of experience as a building level administrator (principal experience preferred)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Experience with implementation of innovative instructional programs such as International Baccalaureate AVID, Gifted, etc; • Must have experience working with a "Needs Improvement School"; • Experience and knowledge of curriculum, willing to work with the district staff and other principal; and • Have innovative ideas and skills for school climate improvement and parent involvement.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Assumes complete control of the school and its activities and serves as the educational leader of the staff in matters of instruction and curriculum. • Responsible for managing the cafeteria. • Assigns duties to teachers, determines the assignment of pupils in elementary school, and the schedule of classes in high school. The principal maintains accurate records of attendance by pupils and teachers and accurate records of academic progress of pupils. The instructional load of each teacher is determined by the principal and may be no less than that required by the State Board of Education. In so far as possible, the principal shall attempt to equalize the instructional load within the school. • Supervises the loading and unloading of all school buses on the campus of the school and supervise all school activities on the campus or at any place where the pupils are officially representing the school. • Responsible for the discipline in each school. The principal shall prescribe special rules for securing good order. • Knows and attempts to carry out all state and local regulations, including those of the appropriate accrediting commissions and to make such reports as may be required. • Supervises the custodial staff and requisition from the superintendent appropriate supplies and materials for cleaning and maintaining the building and grounds. • Makes appropriate recommendations for the maintenance of the school building. All hazardous conditions must be reported immediately, but precautions to safeguard the students and faculty may be taken by the principal. • Recommends all personnel under their supervision to the superintendent who in turn makes recommendations to the Board of Education for consideration for election. • Works cooperatively with the other principal in the system and with any system wide employee assigned responsibilities at their school. • Responsible for all financial transactions of school clubs, athletics and any and all other monies collected or handled by faculty advisors or student treasures of school groups. These funds must be accounted for in the official financial accounting system of the school. The principal must approve every project involving the collection or expenditure of such funds. Principals must take bond with an approved insurance company and by responsible for all financial transactions. • Submits periodic reports as required by the superintendent or board of education. • Performs other tasks as may be requested by the superintendent.
