Seeking a Principal Engineer - Quality Control (Mechanical/Piping/Welding Inspector) to support our federal government client in Aiken, SC.

Requirements:

The Contractor will supervise and direct quality control engineers assigned to perform inspections and surveillance in support of project work and/or maintenance activities.

  • Provide quality control support to construction management and direct personnel to implement quality requirements and to accurately status the results.

  • Establish priorities which support construction/operations needs.

  • Resolve complex problems which develop during the implementation of quality activities by coordinating with internal and external departments.

  • Provide leadership which inspires efficient performance of assignments, safe work habits, timely exchange of information and each individuals'''' commitment to site policies.

  • Participate in contract discussions relating to quality activities.

  • Prepare comprehensive status reports for construction quality activities.

  • Review and approve subcontractors quality procedures and monitor their adherence to those procedures.

  • Coordinate the activities of assigned quality control engineers and with other construction departments to ensure that construction is in compliance with site specifications and standards.

  • Prepare quality procedures to ensure proper inspection, testing and surveillance activities are being performed.

  • Provide effective quality training programs and ensure assigned personnel are qualified to perform assigned tasks.

  • Prepare performance evaluations of assigned personnel.

Additional Duties

  • Develop, revise, and perform peer reviews of Quality Control Inspection Plans related to mechanical, piping and welding, in accordance with Design Output documents, Codes, and Standards
  • Perform field related inspections in accordance with Quality Control Inspection Plans
  • Document inspection results on applicable inspection records and issue Non-Conformance reports as required
  • Review product and process compliance with all specified drawings, specifications, and other requirements through inspection and/or review of supplied materials and equipment

Work Hours: A 40 hour work week is scheduled. The client utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week), 4/10's (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80's (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes the client holidays. Each workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Manager. The anticipated work schedule is Monday - Friday, 6:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Area Security Access: Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. After the award, the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Prior work experience working under an ASME NQA-1 quality program
  • Prior DOE work experience
  • Well-developed organizational skills with good communication skills
  • Foster a work environment that promotes safety, quality, openness, trust, communication, teamwork, and customer satisfaction
  • Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a DOE "Q" security clearance

Education

  • Bachelor''''s degree in a technical discipline and at least 8 - 10 years of practical experience in construction inspection or related areas. OR
  • An Associate''''s degree and 10 - 12 years of practical experience would be considered equivalent. OR
  • A high school diploma and 12 - 16 years of practical experience would also be considered equivalent.
  • Certification with continuing technical training is required for performance of inspections and surveillance activities.

Preferred

  • Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years
  • Practical field experience in mechanical, piping, and welding quality control within the last 16 months
  • Candidates with an AWS CWI or prior SNT-TC-1A VT Level II certification
