Engineer Principal - Structural

What Youll Do
- Perform structural analysis on spacecraft, instruments, payloads, optics, mechanisms, and ground support equipment.
- Use closed-form and finite element analysis techniques in stress analysis and structural dynamics.
- Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
On-Site Work Environment
This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Education & Experience
- Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education.
- BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 6 or more years of experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Masters Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience.
- A Master of Science Degree in a structures related field is preferred.
Skills & Proficiencies
- Required: Nastran experience with static, modal, buckling, and frequency response.
- General Software: Simcenter, FEMAP, LS-Dyna, Abaqus, MATLAB, Adams, Solidworks, Python.
- FEM Applications: Explicit, Transient, Nonlinear, Multibody Dynamics, Line of Sight, and Jitter Fatigue.
- Preferred:
- Structural Analysis: Bolted and Bonded Joints, Welds, Electronics, Antennas.
- Fracture and Materials: Composites, Ceramics, and other high temperature materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop loads and environments for structure and components.
- Support structural and environmental testing for static, modal, acoustic, shock, and vibration.
- Write detailed reports for test and analysis activities.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, and the Company.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
Work Environment
Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote. May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required. May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
