Solar Turbines Incorporated, headquartered in San Diego, California, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc. Solar manufactures the world's most widely used family of mid-sized industrial gas turbines, ranging from 1 to 23 megawatts. Job Summary

The individual awarded this position will perform as an Electrical Engineer within our Facility Engineering group at Solar Turbines Kearny Mesa (KM) campus in San Diego, CA.

  • This position manages electrical projects related to KM facility improvements, modifications, or surveys. This includes preparing all estimates related to engineering drawings and specifications for work that is part of a major project or a total project of moderate scope.

  • This Electrical Engineering position will evaluate our site electrical infrastructure needs and will prepare long-term cost and usage studies.

  • This Electrical Engineer will perform all necessary scheduling and coordinating of projects with internal customers, KM Maintenance, construction personnel, and outside contractors. This includes managing capital budgets, contractor PO's and invoicing, and contractor safety.

Accountabilities include:

  • Provide electrical power distribution engineering analysis for facility-wide electrical needs

  • Troubleshoot Electrical Equipment and Control Circuits

  • Manage high and low voltage single line drawings for buildings and facility

  • Develop life cycle plans, including inspection and test programs for all switch gear and battery backup systems.

  • Perform electrical analysis, equipment protection, cable and electrical equipment selection.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of experience in electrical power systems OR 10+ year in Electrical Power Systems within a facilities maintenance / manufacturing, or Oil & Gas capacity.

  • High energy level and sense of urgency.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Good business / technical judgment.

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities for a variety of tasks

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive)

Top Candidates Have:

  • Master's degree or Ph.D.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)

  • Electrical Certifications

  • Certified Power Systems Engineer (PSE)

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM)

This position requires working onsite five days a week.

Summary Pay Range:

$120,600.00 - $180,900.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
