Position Details:

This full-time faculty position is on campus and in person.

Principal faculty are appointed to their academic positions by the Harris College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Rank will be commensurate with education, experience, and academic record. The Physician Associate Program faculty member serves at the direction of the Program Director. They will serve in a joint role, with responsibilities spanning the academic program''s didactic and clinical phases. Rank will be commensurate with the education, experience, and academic record.

GENERAL

This position is a 12-month, consecutive, non-tenured faculty appointment in the Physician Associate Program. The PA faculty consists of a highly motivated, cohesive group of experienced educators. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive primary care curriculum that prepares students to practice in a variety of clinical settings.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

The faculty member must hold current NCCPA certification, a master's degree, and be eligible for licensure in the state of Texas.

At least two years of clinical experience.

The ability to work collaboratively as an inter-professional team member is essential. Excellent written and oral communication skills are expected to effectively communicate with students, staff, instructional faculty (including adjunct faculty and guest instructors), and organizational administrators. Punctuality, attention to detail, and adherence to due dates are required. Proficiency in technology for organization, word processing, electronic health records, and communication is essential.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Teaching experience.

Doctoral preparation or active pursuit. Documented scholarly activity.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

ADMINISTRATION

Serve as a Physician Associate Education Committee member to facilitate high-quality education through curriculum development and continuous self-assessment and improvement processes.

  1. Developing, reviewing, and revising as necessary the program mission statement, goals, and competencies.

  2. Mentor, instruct, and evaluate students within areas of expertise and interest.

  3. Participating in the program''s admissions process and the Academic Affairs and Promotions Committee.

  4. Attend faculty meetings of the Department and Division.

  5. Participate in Student Class Activities.

ACADEMIC

  1. Attend lectures and provide peer feedback and evaluation.

  2. Provide academic counseling to students

  3. Evaluate student performance

  4. Assure the availability of remedial instruction

  5. Serve as a faculty advisor and mentor to PA students.

  6. Advise potential students on preparing their applications to the program.

  7. Design, implement, coordinate, and evaluate the curriculum

  8. Serve as course director, teach in the classroom, and participate in course assignments in a setting promoting team teaching.

  9. Work in concert with other faculty to develop appropriate "mini-courses'''' to address the special instructional needs of the PA Program.

  10. Develop and maintain student learning objectives and evaluation instruments for traditional, synchronous, and asynchronous web courses.

  11. Participate in lab sessions and simulations.

  12. Participate in clinical quality improvement and clinical site visits/evaluation.

  13. Evaluate the program

  14. Establish a personal program of scholarly activity.

SERVICE

l. Maintain an active role in state and national organizations supporting the program''s educational mission.

  1. Represent the Department and Division in intramural and extramural community activities.

CLINICAL PRACTICE

  1. Provide clinical services to patients in accordance with program policy.

  2. Maintain clinical credentials, including state licensure and national practice certification.

Department Details:

TCU Harris College offers an innovative Master of Medical Science degree in Physician Associate Studies. The program is currently undergoing initial provisional accreditation and is scheduled to matriculate its first cohort of 40 students in January of 2027.

The Physician Associate Studies Program is a 24-month, full-time, post-baccalaureate professional program that prepares graduates for national certification and state licensure as Physician Associates/Assistants. The curriculum will include a mix of didactic instruction, hands-on clinical training, simulation, and field experience in local and regional healthcare settings. Students begin with 15 months of lectures, practical clinical skills training, and bedside demonstrations covering basic medical sciences, clinical medicine, behavioral sciences, patient assessment and evaluation, health education and promotion, and professional standards and ethics. This foundational coursework will be followed by eight months of clinical rotations in the seven core specialties mandated by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), along with two elective rotations in various settings. Graduates from the program will complete 99 credit hours of clinical coursework and will be eligible to take the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE), administered by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

The Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences consists of programs that prepare future health care and human services professionals.
