Position Details
Summary of Position: Vassar Public Schools is seeking a dynamic, student-centered, collaborative, and instructional-focused leader to serve as Principal of our 6-12 building. The successful candidate will lead a school community of approximately 400 students, 25 teachers, and a dedicated team of support staff.
This position requires a visible and relationship-driven leader who can foster a positive school culture while maintaining high expectations for academic achievement, student behavior, and staff performance. The principal will work closely with teachers, students, families, and community stakeholders to support continuous improvement and ensure all students are prepared for success after graduation.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Educational Leadership/Administration or related field.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate (preferably secondary level)
- Valid Michigan School Administrator Certification (or willing to obtain).
- 5 years of successful teaching experience.
- Demonstrated leadership experience at the school or district level.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience as a secondary principal or assistant principal.
- Knowledge of curriculum development, MTSS, PBIS, and school improvement processes.
- Familiarity with the High Reliability Schools Framework
- Experience leading both middle and high school programs.
- Background in rural or small-school settings.

Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Leadership
- Lead curriculum, instruction, and assessment efforts aligned with district goals and state standards.
- Support high-quality teaching practices through classroom observations, feedback, coaching, and professional learning.
- Utilize student achievement and behavioral data to inform school improvement efforts and instructional decision-making.
- Promote a culture of continuous growth and academic excellence.
School Culture & Climate
- Build strong relationships with students, staff, families, and community members.
- Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
- Establish and maintain consistent expectations for student behavior and attendance.
- Support student engagement through academics, extracurricular activities, athletics, and leadership opportunities.
Staff Leadership and Development
- Supervise and evaluate certified and non-certified staff.
- Promote collaboration among middle and high school staff to ensure alignment and continuity for students, using established PLC structures.
- Recruit, retain, and support high-quality personnel.
- Encourage innovation, teamwork, and shared/distributed leadership.
Operations and Management
- Oversee daily school operations, scheduling, supervision, and building management.
- Collaborate with district administration on budgeting, staffing, transportation, and facility needs.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal requirements, board policies, and district procedures.
- Coordinate building safety planning and emergency response procedures.
Family and Community Engagement
- Maintain open and transparent communication with families and stakeholders.
- Represent the school positively within the community.
- Develop partnerships that enhance opportunities for students.
Other Requirements:
- Clear background check and fingerprinting per district policy.
- Ability to work extended hours as needed for events and emergencies.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and traverse campus frequently.
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Pay Rate: $105,000 - $120,000; Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications
