Who We Are:
The Space Systems Directorate is a multidisciplinary team of engineers, program managers, and technicians to develop spaceflight missions, spacecraft, spacecraft avionics systems, spacecraft payloads, and lighter than air systems. By joining our team, you will receive $500 on your first paycheck minus applicable taxes.
Objectives of this Role:
- Machine highly precision parts in a R&D facility in a quick and professional manner.
- Open mindset to machine a large variety of parts from simply to extremely complicated, from ultra-thin-walled aluminum to robust and dense hi-alloy materials.
- Must be able to work and take verbal instructions from mechanical engineers.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
- Must be flexible and innovative to fabricate prototype multitude of different types of parts and material requiring different machining operations.
- Fabricate prototype and limited production machined parts for advanced research and development projects.
- Manufacture complex precision components, using Advanced CNC Milling Machines and Lathes, for spaceflight, DOD and commercial applications.
- Setup and adjust quickly to various type of parts requiring both mill and lathe work.
- Modify existing parts requiring special setups and fixturing with the ability to think outside the box.
- Inspect manufactured components to insure they meet the design and quality requirements.
Requirements:
- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
- 5-15+ years: Experience operating Manual Milling Machines and Lathes with a good understanding of machine shop practices.
- 5-15+ years: Requires programming skills for CNC Milling Machines and Lathes, the ability to estimate material, equipment, and hours needed to complete a job
- Experience with Esprit CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) software preferred.
- A valid/clear driver's license is required

- Applied Physics-Developing advanced electronic and microelectronic devices, power supplies, voice and data communication systems, robot test services, and payloads
- Applied Power-Using physical science research and applied engineering to produce sensors, instruments, and hardware used worldwide.
- Center for Nuclear Waste Regulatory Analyses-Resolving technical and regulatory issues related to a potential geologic repository for spent nuclear fule and high-level radioactive waste.
- Chemistry and Chemical Engineering-Performing research and technical services using chemistry and chemical engineering technology.
- Defense and & Intelligence Solutions-Providing advanced direction finding and tracking systems through geolocation system development.
- Fuels and Lubricants Research-Performing fuels and lubricants research activities to meet regulatory and competitive goals.
- Intelligent Systems-Providing engineering services in resaerch and development of complex systems and equipment.
- Mechanical Engineering-Improving safety, reliability, efficiency and life of new or existing mechanical components or systems.
- Powertrain Engineering-Designing and developing vehicle and engine components to achieve performance and emissions goals.
- Space Science & Engineering-Developing and managing advanced scientific payloads aboard satellites and sounding rockets.
