Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

 

As a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer (Server, GPU) in the Data Center Platform Engineering Group, you will drive the mechanical design for AMD’s next-generation server and GPU platforms. This role is highly technical and influential, requiring deep expertise in mechanical systems and product integration. You will play a key role in shaping the physical design of AMD’s high-power platforms, ensuring robust and manufacturable solutions.

THE PERSON

 

The ideal candidate is an experienced mechanical engineering professional who combines technical excellence with strategic thinking. You have a strong professional background in mechanical design including server and GPU systems, data center infrastructure, and cross-functional collaboration. You have some additional exposure to optics and laser design. You thrive in fast-paced environments, enjoy solving complex design challenges, and can influence technical direction across teams and product lines.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

• Lead the mechanical design for advanced server and GPU platforms.
• Develop detailed mechanical designs and prototypes; validate through simulation, analysis, and physical testing.
• Collaborate with system architecture, board, validation, and manufacturing teams to ensure cohesive product development and system reliability.
• Represent AMD in technical reviews, customer engagements, and industry forums.
• Provide consultative direction to senior leadership on mechanical strategy and design trade-offs.
• Mentor engineers, guide technical direction across functional boundaries, and foster innovation.
• Make critical decisions impacting multiple product families, go-to-market readiness, and overall customer satisfaction.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

• Principal level, mechanical or product design professional experience, ideally in server hardware, GPU systems, or high-performance computing environments.
• Proven expertise in mechanical design for server and rack solutions.
• Expert proficiency with CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent, with advanced modeling and assembly management skills.
• Strong familiarity with DFM principles and manufacturing processes for high-volume production.
• Deep understanding of mechanical materials, manufacturing processes (sheet metal, injection molding, die casting, extrusion), and industry standards.
• Demonstrated success in cross-functional collaboration with electrical, thermal, and validation teams.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence across organizations.
• Optics and laser experience desired

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS

 

• Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field highly preferred, Master’s degree desired
