Principal Mechanical Engineer – Tactical Radars & Land Based Effectors Raytheon Hardware Engineering in Tucson, AZ seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, and deployment of tactical missile systems and associated equipment. This onsite role supports Land & Air Defense Systems missile and launcher product lines and requires collaboration with cross‑functional teams worldwide.Responsibilities Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components and sub‑assemblies for tactical missile systems and equipment in accordance with system requirements.Lead mechanical engineering teams and collaborate across structural, thermal, materials, quality, safety, supply chain, operations, and program leadership.Support factory and suppliers with product development, obsolescence, and troubleshooting domestically and internationally.Interface with other engineering disciplines, non‑technical disciplines, and suppliers to develop design solutions and resolve technical challenges.Work with limited supervision to meet schedule, financial, and technical commitments.Participate in design peer reviews, resolve action items, and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions.Apply knowledge of First Article Inspection (FAI) and Raytheon Source Inspection (RSI) processes, working with quality engineers.Mentor and guide a team of engineers within the program.Utilize Raytheon hardware tools and processes to support design and documentation activities.Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience. An advanced degree may substitute for additional experience.Experience in a technical leadership role across the development lifecycle.Experience leading trade studies, design, requirements development and management, and integration and testing of mechanical engineering products.Experience working across multiple functional and discipline organizations to resolve technical challenges.Experience in development, creation, release, and updates of mechanical technical data packages.Experience reviewing and interpreting technical documentation in a production environment.Experience with ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T.Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.Preferred: Advanced degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering, or hardware systems design.Preferred: Experience in development and production programs for military applications and in a factory supporting full‑rate production of missile components.Preferred: Knowledge of military and commercial specifications, supplier integration, CREO (Pro/E) or similar 3‑D solid modeling software, and PTC Windchill Product Data Management or equivalent.Strong technical writing and oral communication skills; self‑driven leader who collaborates effectively with teams.Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.Benefits Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.Short– and long‑term disability and 401(k) match.Paid time off, holidays, and flexible work schedules.Employee assistance program and parental leave.Potential annual incentive compensation and short‑term incentive programs based on performance.Equal Opportunity Employer RTX is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
