Position Summary   The Principal Power Systems Engineer will be responsible for planning, designing, constructing, and operating various power systems. This role involves providing application engineering services for the design, protection, control, and implementation of UIG projects and GridSure control systems. Key project types include HV/MV/LV power systems, battery energy storage, diesel/natural gas generation, solar (PV), fuel cell, and other microgrid technologies and applications. The engineer will work with the customer or internally provided plans and specifications, which will be submitted and released for design and procurement according to UIG's established procedures and standards.   Responsibilities Lead the design, implementation, and commissioning of HV, MV, and LV (AC/DC) electrical power systems Manage and deliver electrical and power system components on projects of various sizes and complexities Develop project scope, capital cost, and engineering cost estimates Proactively contribute to business development, proposal generation, and networking efforts Conduct project reviews, including specifications and drawings, with the design team, while identifying relevant past projects Produce accurate and complete product and system designs for both internal UIG use and customer delivery Create and verify the Bill of Materials (BoM) for projects, ensuring that long lead-time items are released on time to prevent project delays Support SCADA, protection, and control systems for various types of power systems at the application level Ensure project schedules and milestone dates are met Review and verify drawing packages before submission and release Coordinate and document activities for internal UIG teams Resolve outstanding design questions or issues Prepare engineering drawings based on sketches, verbal descriptions, specifications, and technical data Continuously seek to improve operations, reduce turnaround times, streamline work processes, and collaborate with teams to ensure quality engineering designs Effectively communicate both orally and in writing in English with other engineers, drafters, and manufacturing personnel Own and manage the deliverables related to electrical drawings, EBOMs, SOOs, and other project documentation Help maintain overall engineering schedules, raising early warnings when project milestones are at risk Take ownership of program-level design and support efforts   Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related technical field from an accredited university 5-10+ years of experience as a lead electrical engineer on multidisciplinary projects Expertise in performing engineering studies, including grounding, short circuit, arc flash, coordination, power and load flow modeling, and islanding Proficiency in grid interconnection and substation experience (up to 138 kV) Strong knowledge of power distribution systems (switchgears, MCC, BOP), protection, and control systems Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills, with a strong focus on continuous improvement Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) Ability to interact effectively with peers, management, and clients Willingness to travel up to 35% of the time Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficiency with MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) Proficiency with 2-D CAD software, preferably AutoCAD Electrical Knowledge of drafting standards and the symbols/terminology used in electrical and mechanical engineering drawings Ability to occasionally inspect in-process work, including positioning oneself at varying heights or low to the ground Ability to assist in moving materials and equipment weighing approximately 40 lbs Manual dexterity to operate digital equipment, including computers and machine controllers Occasional exposure to electrical testing and other industrial processes   Essential Functions Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) Experience with UL (Underwriters Laboratory) listings and classifications Familiarity with IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) listings and classifications Apply for this Position Principal Power Systems Engineer Position First Name Last Name Your email address Attach your CV/Resume (.pdf) Please tell us about yourself Leave this field blank Submit
