Role Overview
The Principal Process Engineer (PPE) will demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, technical programs, and process best practice for Veolia fixed facilities. Aligned with business objectives, this individual will strategize using their experience and expertise to solve complex production, service, and process challenges. By developing and executing programs, they will affect short-term and long-term business goals. The role will require balancing process improvement initiatives, escalated issue resolution, advising on technical matters, and capital project support at the facilities.
Where needed, they may also be asked to help coordinate the installation, set-up, training, and overall readiness of new projects or key personnel.

Key Characteristics
The Principal Process Engineer role will provide technical leadership and coaching for plants, ensuring positive and effective cooperation with cross-functional team members to ensure business objectives around safety, quality, efficiency, and new product developments at plants are met.
- Project Planning and Execution: Experience in the planning and execution of projects, including project approach and resource needs, options analysis, process and equipment design, engineering document development, and system ownership through the project delivery phases of plan, design, procure, construct, and commissioning.
- Areas of Expertise: Could include process experience for complex capital projects within the water and wastewater treatment, and water reuse area, including conventional technologies like ion exchange and other advanced water and wastewater treatment processes.
- Leadership Skills: Strong technical leadership, collaboration, and sound business value-based prioritization and problem-solving skills.
- Operational Improvement: Responsible for successful delivery of technical process campaigns to improve operations through technical design, process guidance, operating rate improvement, scrap reduction, ergonomic improvements, tooling, and other related plant enhancements.
- Collaboration: Work effectively with engineering capital project teams, as well as other project-related cross-functional teams with representatives from divisions throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities
As Principal Process Engineer, there is broad responsibility to understand business operations, recommend process changes, and develop executable engineered deliverables while coordinating with project and regional teams.
- Ability to design/scope, manage, and execute plant + equipment capital expenditure projects within budget. Develop detailed technical specifications for RFQ/RFP related to equipment, facility, and conveying purchases and installations.
- Drive project planning and controls by developing detailed schedules, cost forecasts, and resource plans.
- Capture & maintain all technical specifications/information (including technical & costing models) to produce a Mobile Water Center of Excellence (CoE) knowledge atlas helping ensure future business continuity.
- Resolve challenges using methodical data-driven solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts.
- Analyze production trends, human resource needs, and customer demand to plan plant enhancement activities.
- Confer with management, production, commercial operations, and sales staff to determine technical & process engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and production capability for new and existing products and plants.
- Understand regulations and be able to work with state authorities to develop permit strategies.
- Maintain a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations, and develop recommendations accordingly.
- Provide direction and application of company policies and procedures for process & engineering activities.
- Support the quality function through all plant integration of ISO / QC documentation.
- Use six sigma methods (DMAIC) and lean manufacturing principles to reduce variation and eliminate waste in the product and associated processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or other applicable degree qualification.
- 15+ years of technical or manufacturing or industrial engineering work experience.
- 5+ years people leadership work experience.
- The role requires the ability to travel domestically up to 30% of the time. On occasion, the role will require work outside of NorAm and may include international travel on an infrequent basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ideally Professional Engineering (PE) and Project Management Professional (PMP) certified.
- Ability to utilize lean-manufacturing principles to lead high-impact process and quality improvement projects yielding significant reduction in defects and increased productivity in the plants.
- Experience with water treatment technologies and specifically Ion Exchange systems.
- The role requires the ability to travel domestically up to 30% of the time with occasional need to travel outside of NorAm.
- Electrical design ability.
- Masters Degree in relevant fields (Engineering, Water, etc.) is helpful.
- Excellent ability to communicate complex ideas and integration of systems.
Compensation
The salary range is tied to the market for similarly benchmarked roles. The range is not an absolute, but a guide, and offers will be based on the individual candidates knowledge, skills, experience, and market conditions, as well as internal peer equity. Depending upon all the preceding considerations for the final selected individual candidate, the offer may be lower or higher than the stated range: $135-147k.

- Compensation: The salary range is tied to the market for similarly benchmarked roles. The range is not an absolute, but a guide, and offers will be based on the individual candidates knowledge, skills, experience, and market conditions, as well as internal peer equity. Depending upon all the preceding considerations for the final selected individual candidate, the offer may be lower or higher than the stated range: $130,000-$140,000 USD annually.
