General Job Description: The Principal will use leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student. The Principal will follow the competencies and indicators found in the Handbook for Highly Objective Uniform Statewide Standard of Evaluation (HOUSSE) for Principals and Assistant Principals in the State of New Mexico.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Principal promotes the success of all students by maintaining a culture that supports student achievement, high quality instruction, and professional development to meet the diverse learning needs of the school community.
  • The Principal uses communication and relationship-building skills to engage the larger community in the knowledge of an advocacy for equity in meeting the diverse needs of the school community.
  • The Principal organizes and coordinates ongoing professional learning opportunities that are aligned with the New Mexico Professional Development Framework and supports the diverse learning needs of the school community.
  • The Principal manages the school campus, budget, and daily operations to equitably meet the diverse learning need of the school community.
  • The middle school and high school Principal develops, supports, encourages and supervises programs that lead to increased student attendance, achievement, and graduation rates resulting in college readiness and work skills to meet the diverse needs of the community.
  • The Principal supervises the Farmington District Credit Recovery Program including Summer School.
  • The Principal supervises the I.A.E.S program for 45-Day Placement of Special Needs Student.
  • The Principal supervises the Middle School/High School Day Reporting Program.
  • The Principal supervises the Juvenile Service Center and the CATE center including evaluations and professional development.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise all staff attached to the school
  • Supervise all other resource and service personnel while functioning in your school
  • Comply with timelines and requests for information from state and/or district administration
  • Form and meet with or appoint individuals to meet with all committees (SAT, PAC, PLC's, Goal Teams, Leadership Teams, etc.) in a consistent and timely manner
  • Keep artifacts of all meetings including attendance logs
  • Promote and support district initiatives
  • Complete EPSS and/or 90-DayPlan with leadership team and submit with data as per district timeline
  • Compile data, or appoint individuals to compile data, and use to drive instructional decisions
  • Complete Safety Plan and revise yearly
  • Plan for and manage the resources for which you are given responsibility including but not limited to personnel, finances, facilities and time
  • Be available to parents, students, administration, and peers outside the school day, if needed
  • Attend extra curricular activities
  • Report suspected child abuse and neglect
  • Be responsible for students on field trips
  • Assign mentors for new/beginning teachers
  • Act as a good role model within the context of the school
  • Supervise (or designate a supervisor) practicum students and student teachers in your building
  • Develop and use community and professional resources
  • Understand and apply learning theories
  • Accept other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the supervisor

Qualifications: Master's degree and valid NM administrative license as required by the State of New Mexico. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Physical Requirements: Ability to perform the job and access the environment for which you are hired. The following may be required: Sitting, standing, lifting, moving about the room or school, carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, prolonged typing, physical ability to type on a keyboard terminal, and moving light furniture.

Equipment/Technology Handled: Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology.

Work Environment: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision. After hour work may be required.

Terms of Employment: 221 Day Contract - 221 Day Principal Salary Scale.
