Principal Software Engineer - Test Equipment

Active Secret Clearance Required

A confidential aerospace and defense organization is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to support advanced test equipment software used in mission-critical engineering, factory, production, and sustainment environments. This role is focused on developing, integrating, troubleshooting, and maintaining Windows-based software applications that interface with complex engineering systems, instrumentation, and production test equipment.

This is a strong fit for a hands-on software engineer who has built object-oriented applications in C# and C++ within Microsoft Visual Studio, enjoys working closely with electrical, systems, test, and manufacturing engineering teams, and can support high-reliability equipment in a secure on-site environment. Candidates must be comfortable working 100% on site in Tucson, AZ and must meet U.S. citizenship and Secret clearance requirements.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Estimated pay range: $105.25 to $123.50 per hour, based on experience and final approval.
  • Yearlong renewable contract with ability to extend multiple years or convert to permanent.
  • Schedule: 1st shift, 40 hours per week.
  • Work arrangement: 100% on site in Tucson, AZ.
  • Openings: 2.
  • Arizona paid sick time: up to 5 eight-hour days per year, based on applicable state requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, integrate, and maintain object-oriented software applications using C# and C++ in Microsoft Visual Studio.
  • Develop Windows-based software solutions that support engineering, factory, production, and sustainment test environments.
  • Troubleshoot software issues involving test equipment, instrumentation, hardware interfaces, and production support systems.
  • Work with multidisciplinary engineering teams across software, test, systems, electrical, hardware, and manufacturing functions.
  • Develop and derive software requirements for test-equipment applications and related system-level tools.
  • Support all phases of the engineering lifecycle, including development, integration, verification, production support, and post-production sustainment.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple software engineering tasks in a fast-moving technical environment.
  • Lead technical workstreams and mentor junior software engineers when needed.

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Active Secret clearance required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another STEM discipline.
  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, or 5+ years with an advanced STEM degree.
  • Strong experience developing object-oriented software in C# and C++.
  • Experience using Microsoft Visual Studio in a Windows operating system environment.
  • Experience troubleshooting software, instrumentation, test equipment, or hardware/software integration issues.
  • Ability to work 100% on site in Tucson, AZ.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work across engineering disciplines.
