    Prime Video is a first-stop entertainment destination offering customers a vast collection of premium programming in one app available across thousands of devices. Prime members can customize their viewing experience and find their favorite movies, series, documentaries, and live sports - including Amazon MGM Studios-produced series and movies; licensed fan favorites; and programming from Prime Video add-on subscriptions such as Apple TV+, Max, Crunchyroll and MGM+. All customers, regardless of whether they have a Prime membership or not, can rent or buy titles via the Prime Video Store, and can enjoy even more content for free with ads.

    As a Prime Video technologist, you'll have end-to-end ownership of the product, user experience, design, and technology required to deliver state-of-the-art experiences for our customers.     Prime Video is on a mission to reimagine how customers discover and engage with content across the entertainment landscape. We're seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the technical direction of our next-generation Recommender Systems (RecSys) platforms - systems that sit at the core of how customers experience Prime Video.

    About the team:

    Prime Video Personalization and Discovery (PVPD) is dedicated to creating a highly personalized content discovery experience that not only delights our customers but also drives both short-and long-term business goals. Our scope includes personalized recommendations, search, marketing, and the advanced machine learning technology and infrastructure that underpins these experiences. Our mission is to automate and enhance customer engagement through personalization, using ML and Generative AI.

    Key job responsibilities:

    In this role, you will partner closely with applied scientists, product teams, and platform engineers to define and deliver highly extensible systems that fuel personalized discovery at scale. you will lead the technical strategy and architecture of Prime Video's end-to-end personalization stack - spanning data ingestion, feature engineering, training and serving platform, candidate retrieval, multi-stage ranking, dynamic content grouping, whole page optimization, and orchestration. Your work will shape how millions of customers discover content they love, optimizing for engagement, retention, and long-term customer value.

    You will bring clarity to ambiguity, complexity, ROI, planning, and trade-off etc that dramatically improves the agility, usability, and extensibility of our ML solutions. Your technical leadership will shape the future of AI/ML across Prime Video, unlocking generative and ML models that personalize content for hundreds of millions of viewers worldwide.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Consistently meet challenging deadlines and deliver high-quality solutions that enable the Prime Video platform to scale to meet growing customer demand.
    • Overcome obstacles and persist in the face of setbacks to ensure critical initiatives are successfully completed.
    • Proactively identify and mitigate risks, communicating regularly with stakeholders on project status and issues.
    • Demonstrate deep technical expertise in cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, ML/AI fluency and large-scale data processing.
    • Understand the architecture and design limitations of the existing Prime Video systems, ML models, and drive technical decisions that address deficiencies and optimize performance.
    • Use data-driven analysis to make a compelling case for project priorities and resource allocation.
    • Accountable for the overall strategy and successful execution of large, complex infrastructure optimization and scaling programs.
    • Partner closely with engineering, product, and business leaders to align initiatives with high-level objectives and achieve measurable improvements in efficiency or customer experience.
    • Communicate ideas effectively to a wide range of audiences, foster constructive dialogue, and lead the resolution of contentious technical issues.
    • Set a best-in-class example for project/program management practices, driving crisp decision-making and proactive risk mitigation.
