Randstad is seeking a visionary Principal UI/UX Architect for our premier client in Washington, D.C. to champion a massive, enterprise-scale digital modernization of their rail transportation systems. In this highly strategic role, you will act as the ultimate bridge between cutting-edge front-end engineering and high-level enterprise architecture, establishing UI governance, evolving design systems, and mentoring engineering teams. By marrying modern user interface standards (Angular, Tailwind CSS, PrimeNG) with robust enterprise frameworks, you will drive a unified, accessible, and high-performance digital ecosystem that solves complex, multi-domain business challenges for a critical transportation leader.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define UI Standards: Define, own, and govern enterprise UI architecture standards, application structures, routing approaches, and design patterns across all web and mobile applications.
  • Own the Design System: Evolve and manage the enterprise UI design system, including component behavior, variants, states, theming, and shared UI libraries.
  • Drive Modern CSS & Component Usage: Establish best-in-class responsive design patterns and drive the consistent use of Tailwind CSS integrated with PrimeNG for layout, typography, and spacing.
  • Translate UX to Code: Translate complex Figma designs into highly reusable, scalable, accessible, and production-ready UI components.
  • Ensure Accessibility & Performance: Champion UI performance, usability, and strict web accessibility standards (WCAG) across all customer-facing and internal applications.
  • Establish UI Governance: Implement robust front-end governance practices to prevent divergence and ensure seamless scalability as development teams and application suites grow.
  • Mentor & Review: Review and guide UI designs and implementations for new features, while mentoring development teams on UI architecture best practices.
  • Integrate Legacy & Modern Systems: Collaborate with Enterprise Architects to align front-end strategies with modern event-driven architectures (Java/Spring microservices) and legacy mainframe systems (IBM Mainframe & TPF).
Qualifications
  • Experience: 15+ years of broad IT experience, including 10+ years of dedicated technology/software architecture experience.
  • Domain Expertise: Proven experience designing and implementing large-scale modernization solutions specifically for rail transportation companies is required.
  • UI/UX Mastery: Deep, hands-on expertise in Angular, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and enterprise-scale component-based UI architecture.
  • Styling & Design Systems: Advanced experience with Tailwind CSS, mobile-first design, and integrating Tailwind with PrimeNG or similar component libraries.
  • Agile Environments: 5+ years of hands-on experience practicing within the SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) methodology.
  • Technical Breadth: Well-grounded in architectural modeling, event-driven architectures, and software design principles. Broad familiarity with technologies spanning legacy platforms to modern Java-based microservices is highly preferred.
  • Enterprise Architecture (Plus): Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture Frameworks and Bodies of Knowledge-such as TOGAF, Business Architecture Guild (BizBok), and DAMA (DMBok)-is a strong plus.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to influence technical decisions and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
