    Job Description

    About Us

AWS Applied AI Solutions is an organization with ambitions to be a leading provider of business applications, leveraging Amazon's unique experience and expertise, used by millions of companies worldwide to manage day-to-day operations. Our mission is to accelerate our customers' businesses by delivering intuitive and differentiated technology solutions that solve enduring business challenges. We blend vision with curiosity and Amazon's real-world experience to build opinionated, turnkey solutions. Where customers prefer to buy over build, we become their trusted partner with solutions that are no-brainers to buy and easy to use.

    The Role

We're seeking a Principal UX Designer who is passionate about shaping the future of AI-native business applications at scale. This is a rare opportunity to influence the direction of Amazon's next generation of AI-powered solutions. As a Principal Designer, you will define experience strategies that span across multiple solutions and customer journeys, turning cutting-edge AI capabilities into meaningful, proactive, and trustworthy experiences for millions of customers.

You will not only drive design at the highest levels of complexity but also shape how design and AI intersect across AWS. You will influence product and business strategy, mentor other junior to senior designers, and partner closely with science, engineering, and product leaders to push the boundaries of what's possible with AI.

    Key Job Responsibilities

    • Own the UX vision and strategy across multiple services and solutions, ensuring experiences are intuitive, elegant, and scalable.
    • Set the bar for AI-native design by translating emerging AI capabilities into coherent, human-centered experiences that build trust and drive adoption.
    • Influence product and business direction, working with senior leadership to identify opportunities where design and AI can transform customer outcomes.
    • Define and drive cross-service design standards such as interaction models, experience principles, and reusable patterns to ensure consistency.
    • Mentor and elevate the design org, coaching other designers and raising the overall quality of craft, storytelling, and execution.
    • Prototype and explore new AI paradigms, collaborating with applied scientists and engineers to validate bold ideas and shape next-generation interfaces.
    • Be a thought leader inside and outside AWS, evangelizing design excellence and the responsible adoption of AI through storytelling, writing, and cross-org forums.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
