College Technology Services seeks a qualified Print Lab Technician to support student learning and daily operations within the Art Department print lab and digital imaging environment. This position provides hands-on technical assistance to students working with photographic printing, digital imaging, scanning, and creative software while ensuring that lab equipment, printers, and workflows operate efficiently and safely.

The Print Lab Technician plays a critical customer-facing role, offering individualized guidance to students on printing processes, photography concepts, and digital tools while maintaining a professional, organized, and welcoming lab environment. This role requires the ability to distinguish color contrast and tonal differences.

To best serve students, faculty, and the department, this position requires an on-campus presence.

Essential Functions

  • Assist students with photographic printing needs and printer setup and output troubleshooting.
  • Manage and maintain high-end photo printers, including Epson SC-P800 and Epson SC-P900 models.
  • Perform routine printer maintenance, including ink replacement, nozzle checks, print-head cleanings, roller cleaning, and maintenance cartridge replacement.
  • Support students with negative film scanning using Epson scanners and VueScan software.
  • Demonstrate and assist with printer workflows, color-managed printing templates, and file preparation.
  • Provide technical assistance with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign, Illustrator, Animate, Bridge, Character Animator, Premiere Pro, and Substance 3D.
  • Assist students using digital drawing tablets, such as Wacom, Huion, and XP-Pen.
  • Support students working with Apple Pencil, iPadOS devices, and Procreate.
  • Provide guidance related to photography fundamentals, including camera operation, lenses, composition, lighting, color, and image quality.
  • Assist students with macOS, iPadOS, and Windows platforms.
  • Support use of external storage devices and cloud-based storage solutions, including iCloud and Apple Account services.
  • Assist students working with animation and 3D software, including Blender, Maya, ZBrush, TouchDesigner, Toon Boom Harmony Premium, and Toon Boom Storyboard Pro.
  • Monitor and supervise student use of computers, scanners, printers, and lab equipment during open lab hours.
  • Enforce print lab etiquette, safety protocols, and proper equipment usage.
  • Direct and monitor students to ensure responsible use of school equipment and materials.
  • Track and assist with inventory of paper, ink, maintenance supplies, and consumables, reporting supply needs to faculty or supervisors.
  • Document technical issues, service requests, and incidents using a CRM system, such as ServiceNow.
  • Utilize Google Workspace tools, including Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Gmail, for documentation, communication, and coordination.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with students, faculty, staff, and coworkers in a customer service-oriented environment.
  • Build positive rapport with a diverse population of students and staff.
  • Maintain clean, organized workstations and ensure equipment is powered down and secured at the end of lab hours.
