PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsible for the leadership of all printing, sheeting, graphics, and pre-press operations for the packaging facility. Guides and directs overall productivity and print quality for the department while simultaneously driving continuous improvement. Leads training, development, and coaching of team members while ensuring a safe and healthy workplace through proper training and maintenance.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY:
Demonstrates personal commitment to Safety that promotes a culture of safety and an expectation of safety compliance; takes responsibility to ensure that team is educated and trained in all areas of safety.
Effectively communicates with team and other departments to report on daily production, plans for future production, operational needs or issues, and schedule changes; partners effectively with scheduling department to ensure effective and optimal production to meet customer needs; leads effective and engaging shift meetings with team.
Proactively reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to evaluate performance and determine causes of operating or production issues or nonconformity with product specifications.
Actively collaborates with the Sales, Customer Service, and Production Team to ensure seamless execution of customer requests on time and within budget.
Partners with equipment OEM and internal maintenance team to drive safety, quality, optimal uptime, and machine predictability, as well as develop capital justification for machine enhancements or new equipment to drive continuous improvement within the department.
Develop strong relations with suppliers to provide a foundation for excellent customer responsiveness and quality by seeking out current industry trends, product innovation, and modern technology.
Owns color management strategy within all pertinent areas of the operations including maintenance of G7 certification.
Leads and champions change to support lean continuous improvement principles, best practices in plant, food safety, and innovation.
Oversees inventory counts to maintain inventory of ink, blankets, coatings, specialty inks, and other supplies, in conjunction with monitoring use of materials.
Identifies, documents, and drives departmental performance to meet metrics for Safety, Quality, Productivity, Waste, and other KPIs identified.
Establishes, communicates, and drives departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) through engaging the team and ensuring understanding while equipping and empowering them with the tools and resources needed; establishes clear accountability for the teams work.
Manages staffing for all three shifts for printing, sheeting, graphics, and pre-press to meet workload requirements and productivity standards.
Collaborates and proactively communicates with shift supervisors regarding staffing, team member issues, equipment updates, production issues, or changes in schedule to maintain seamless communication between all shifts.
Engages and constructively challenges team members through continuous learning, development, and coaching while offering opportunities to acquire new skills, collaborate with other teams, and participate on special projects.
Manages administrative needs of the team including ensuring proper maintenance of equipment, maintaining licenses or certifications, and ordering supplies; perform general supervisory responsibilities such as interviewing, administering performance reviews, approving time and attendance, compliance with quality and safety procedures, etc.
Partners with HR to complete technical and professional development plans for team members, including succession plans, for those that have been identified as potential successors in any technical or leadership role.
Creates clear expectations and accountability among all team members and partners with HR to communicate, enforce, and carry out necessary disciplinary action for any performance, attendance, or code of conduct violation; Identifies with and supports company leadership and company decisions and ensures compliance to all company policies and procedures.
Partners with Sales to coordinate trials, press runs, customer samples, and approvals.
Fosters and maintains good working relationships with outside vendors and customers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Must have excellent communication skills both written and verbal with the demonstrated ability to coach team members and develop talent.
Must be proficient in PC skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
