Summary of Purpose

Performs duties related to operation of print production services and all associated equipment. The employee is expected to work in a multi-cultural, diverse working environment.

Typical Duties

This description is intended to indicate the types of duties and responsibilities requested of the employee assigned this title. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the duties and responsibilities that may be required:

  • Operates and maintains equipment including print production equipment such as wide format and digital printers, folders/inserters, and other departmental equipment; monitors safety, security, and cleanliness of work area.
  • Prepares, operates, monitors, and maintains the closed network print management system and all related equipment.
  • Analyzes problems that occur in the print production system and related equipment; takes corrective action, as necessary.
  • Oversees the quality of printed materials such as, alignment, legibility and cleanliness.
  • Assists customers with all aspects of printing process (e.g., pricing, paper selection, finishing options) and adherence to all copyright rules and regulations, alerting immediate supervisor of potential violations.
  • Maintains and creates customer service requests data base and electronic document library of recurring customer jobs, as necessary.
  • Coordinates and maintains production schedules involving multiple pieces of equipment.
  • Maintains inventory for departmental operating supplies.
  • Combines, creates, and improves documents as necessary to make print ready.
  • Prepares monthly reports in a timely manner and additional reports, as needed.
  • Trains and directs college student personnel with appropriate approval.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Performs related tasks, as assigned.
  • Ability to work additional hours, as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience

EDUCATION: Successful completion of a minimum of 24 college credit hours in Computer Information Systems (CIS).

  • OR-

Certification as a Print Specialist.

  • OR-

An associate's degree or higher in any discipline.

  • AND-

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) or more years of experience in a printing and finishing environment. Must also possess and maintain a current and valid Michigan driver's license.

Employee Group: Classified Part-Time

Benefit Effective Date: First of the month after date of hire

Part-time Classified employees are offered the opportunity to have medical, dental, vision at the full monthly premium; life insurance is also available at a nominal cost. Participation requires that benefit costs be taken via payroll deduction.
