JOB DESCRIPTION
This is administrative services work in planning, coordination, and directing the purchase, storage, and issue of stores and materials at the Maine State Prison, in Warren. Work includes planning, coordinating, and implementing stores and materials programs, guidelines, and procedures, maintaining cost and inventory controls, assisting with budget development, and scheduling work.

REPRESENTATIVE TASKS: (A position may not be assigned all the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all the duties that may be assigned).
• Oversees and directs the requisition, receipt, storage, and issue of a wide variety of stores and materials in order to ensure the availability of required items and contain expenditures within budgetary limits.
• Instructs, assigns, monitors, and evaluates the activities of subordinate staff and resident workers in order to meet unit goals and objectives and prevent theft.
• Assists in developing, analyzing, and monitoring budgets and spending trends in order to determine if there are sufficient funds to meet program expenses and maximize cost effectiveness.
• Observes and monitors resident behavior and takes appropriate action in order to maintain staff and inmate safety and prevent escape.
• Develops specifications for equipment and materials in order to obtain items required for prison operation.
• Supervises and evaluates the laundry supervisor's work and monitors prison laundry operations in order to ensure clean and repaired clothes are provided to residents in a timely manner.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY:
• Knowledge of budgeting and administrative procedures and practices
• Knowledge of state purchasing procedures
• Knowledge of prison security regulations and operating procedures
• Knowledge of American Correctional Association standards.
• Ability to assist in compiling documentation, audits, and action plans for support services American Correctional Association accreditation folders.
• Ability to plan, direct, and evaluate the work of subordinates and
• Ability to order, receive, store, issue, control and safeguard a variety of stores and materials
• Ability to write bid specifications
• Ability to monitor purchase contracts for compliance.
• Ability to establish and maintain an inventory control system.

• Ability to utilize departmental resources to research prisoner requests and respond accordingly.
• Develops specifications for equipment and materials to obtain items required for prison operation.
• Assist in monitoring and inspecting equipment throughout the facility, including safety and security equipment.
• Assist in compiling documentation, audits, and action plans for support services in American Correctional Association accreditation folders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-Education and/or experience providing knowledge of property procurement, correct
