GENERAL INFORMATION

This position reports to the Division of Federal Programs Schools. It involves tutoring individual students and/or small groups. The duties include but are not limited to:

  • Establishes objectives and plans learning experiences for individual and/or small group of students.
  • Works with private school tutor in implementing plans.
  • Implements activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time to meet objectives.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere for students.
  • Exhibits positive human relationship skills.
  • Evaluates the Title I educational program and/or student progress.
  • Communicates with parents/guardians and colleagues of students.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
  • Maintains high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.
  • Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.
  • Assumes any and all other responsibilities assigned by the Executive Director of Federal and Special Programs and her designated staff.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR PARAPROFESSIONALS

Must possess a secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent and one of the following qualifications below:

  • Successful completion of at least 48 semester hours of study at an institution of higher education that was appropriately accredited per the Alabama State Department of Education at the time the courses were taken.
  • An Associate Degree or higher documented on an official transcript from an institution of higher education that was appropriately accredited per the Alabama State Department of Education at the time the degree was earned.
  • A passing score of 3 or higher on the state-prescribed WorkKeys Assessments. The tests currently required are Applied Math Work Place Documents and Business Writing.

Official Transcripts and Score Reports documenting successful completion of all education requirements will be required prior to beginning work in the position.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR TUTORS

Must have current valid Alabama Teaching Certification.

Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.

Good general health, clean in attire and appearance.

Ability to be punctual and regular in attendance.

Official Transcripts and Score Reports documenting successful completion of all education requirements will be required prior to beginning work in the position.

SALARY RANGE

  • Paraprofessionals: $10.50 per hour, not to exceed 19 hours per week
  • Tutors: $30.00 per hour, not to exceed 19 hours per week

ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION

Applicants selected for classified and certified positions must undergo or have undergone an ABIFBI criminal history background check fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department and be declared suitable and fit to teach under state law. Applicants selected must also pass a drug-screening test via forms provided by Human Resources during the selection process.
