PRN ER RN Job Description
The Emergency Room RN will provide comprehensive nursing care to patients presenting to the Emergency Department with a wide range of illnesses, injuries, and acuity levels.
Responsibilities include:
Provide safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care to Emergency Department patients.
Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and promptly identify changes in patient condition.
Triage and prioritize patients based on acuity and established Emergency Department protocols.
Administer medications, IV therapies, treatments, and other interventions as ordered.
Monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, laboratory results, and other clinical indicators.
Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency and rapidly changing patient conditions.
Assist physicians and other providers with emergency procedures and patient stabilization.
Participate in resuscitation and other emergency response activities as appropriate.
Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, technicians, and other healthcare professionals.
Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records and nursing documentation.
Provide patient and family education regarding medications, treatments, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
Maintain patient safety, infection prevention, and quality-of-care standards.
Follow facility policies, nursing standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Demonstrate flexibility and professionalism while working in a dynamic Emergency Department environment.
Education Requirements
Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Additional emergency nursing education or specialty training is preferred.
Certification and Licensure Requirements
Current Registered Nurse license in the State of California.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred or required according to facility requirements.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred or required according to facility requirements.
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification is a plus.
Additional Emergency Department or critical-care certifications are welcomed.
Experience Requirements
Previous Emergency Room or Emergency Department RN experience preferred.
Acute-care nursing experience may be considered based on clinical background.
Strong patient assessment and critical-thinking skills.
Ability to prioritize care effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Ability to remain calm, organized, and clinically focused during emergency situations.
