    Job Description

    Performs tests on specimens to provide information for diagnosing and combating disease. Works independently with moderate supervision from a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Supervisor or the Director of Laboratory Operations. May be assigned to work in specialized section within the department.

    Qualifies as a General Medical Laboratory Scientists under CLIA-88 by any of the following:

    • Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory/medical technology science, or

    • Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical technology program, or

    • Previously qualified or could have qualified as a generalist prior to 2/29/92 under 42 CFR 493.1427 (3/14/90)

    • Verbal communication skills required to interact with other hospital personnel

    • Writing skills and computer aptitude required to document test results and prepare reports of daily work

    • Must be able to stand for long periods

    • Must be available to rotate shifts and work weekends and holidays.

    • All medical laboratory scientists must meet the CLIA '88 requirements for the complexity level of work performed
