PRN Pharmacist
Now Hiring: PRN Pharmacist
Highland Medical Center | Monterey, Virginia
Highland Medical Center is seeking a licensed Pharmacist to join our HMC Pharmacy team on a PRN basis. The Pharmacist is responsible for supporting all aspects of pharmacy operations, including prescription dispensing, medication counseling, inventory management, pharmacy technician oversight, and compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pharmacist who enjoys providing personalized, community-focused care in a collaborative healthcare environment.
What You'll Do:
Dispense prescriptions accurately and efficiently, including product selection, counting, measuring, labeling, and compounding medications as appropriate.
Review and process new prescriptions and refills while obtaining necessary information from patients and healthcare providers.
Provide medication counseling and respond to patients' medication-related questions while protecting confidential health information.
Communicate and collaborate with physicians, dentists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support safe and effective patient care.
Provide oversight and support to pharmacy technicians and assist with daily pharmacy workflow.
Maintain appropriate inventory levels, order medications and supplies, and receive, price, and stock pharmacy orders, including controlled substances.
Maintain accurate Schedule II inventory and ensure appropriate security and handling of controlled medications.
Process third-party insurance rejections and complete required pharmacy reports and documentation.
Identify and appropriately handle expired, damaged, or recalled medications.
Follow all pharmacy security, loss prevention, quality improvement, and medication safety procedures.
Participate in peer review and quality improvement activities.
Ensure compliance with Highland Medical Center policies and applicable Virginia and federal pharmacy laws, rules, and regulations.
Provide excellent customer service and contribute to a positive, professional pharmacy environment.
What We're Looking For:
Education: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD required; Doctor of Pharmacy preferred.
Experience: Minimum of two years of retail pharmacy experience preferred.
Licensure: Current and unrestricted Virginia Pharmacist license required.
Strong knowledge of pharmacy operations, medication safety, and applicable state and federal regulations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to perform pharmaceutical calculations accurately.
Proficiency with pharmacy information systems and computer applications.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
