Job Description

Probation/Parole Officer 2

This position will split time between Cedar and Muscatine counties, with adjustments as needed to meet fluctuations in caseload demands. It will initially start out with 3 days in Cedar County.

Schedule is Monday-Friday with a varied work schedule.

It will be responsible for supervision of probation, parole, and pretrial release with supervision. This agent will supervise interstate compact cases, and the caseload will include sex offenders. The caseload will encompass the full spectrum of risk levels, with the majority of cases being low to medium risk.

• Duties related to this position include administration of assessments that identify risk, need and responsivity for the purpose of developing effective intervention strategies targeted at reducing recidivism. This may include the IVVI, DRAOR, SOTIPS or other criminogenic risk and need assessments. The agent will develop case plans based on risk and need, with clear goal setting and routine updates per policy. Conduct home checks as required. Maintain a thorough and detailed case file for each client to include client-related and collaborative contacts and adheres to department policy and Iowa Code as they relate to confidentiality or records.
• As a highly effective agent, this person will maintain contact standards according to policy, ensuring structured and purposeful contacts that utilize core correctional practices, role playing, skill building exercises, Serin and Carey Guides, modeling, and reinforcing appropriate alternatives to pro-criminal thinking during individual sessions with clients.
• This position will be responsible for fostering and maintaining quality working relationships with all stakeholders (treatment providers, law enforcement, etc.) throughout their counties served to ensure quality communication as well as to understand and facilitate appropriate referrals for clients.
• Based on operational need and agent interest, there may be a need for group facilitation.
• Complete training regarding New Employee Training (NET), assessments, case management tools as well as all other assigned trainings.
• May work toward IBTSA Certified Sex Offender Treatment Professional 1 credential and may learn to facilitate Sex Offender Treatment groups based on agent interest and operational need.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in any field.
• A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience in a human services or criminal justice field, where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
• Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes 18 months of full-time work as a Probation/Parole Officer 1.
