Title: Math Interventionist (Intermediate School - Durand Eastman & Laurelton Pardee Intermediate Schools)
Reports To: Building Principal at Laurelton-Pardee Intermediate School/Durand Eastman Intermediate School and Director of Elementary Education
Job Summary
The Math Intervention Teacher provides targeted math instruction and intervention to intermediate-level students who require additional support in mathematics. The position focuses on improving student number and operations and operations and algebraic thinking skills and math fluency through data-driven instruction, collaboration with classroom teachers, and the implementation of research-based math practices aligned with district and state standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction & Intervention
- Provide direct math instruction to identified students in individual, small-group, and/or classroom settings.
- Design and implement research-based math interventions addressing number sense, multi-digit computation and early fraction concepts appropriate for intermediate learners.
- Establish clear instructional objectives and measurable outcomes aligned with district math standards and student learning goals.
Assessment & Data Use
- Conduct and analyze formal and informal math assessments to identify students eligible for intervention and to guide instructional planning.
- Monitor student progress regularly and adjust instruction based on assessment data and observed student performance.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate results to teachers, administrators, and families as appropriate.
Collaboration & Professional Support
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, ENL teachers, and administrators to support a comprehensive math program.
- Provide guidance and coaching to teachers on math strategies, instructional materials, and assessment practices.
- Participate in grade-level, problem-solving, and data team meetings to support school-wide math initiatives.
Curriculum & Program Development
- Assist in the selection and implementation of instructional materials and math resources aligned with district goals.
- Support the implementation of district math initiatives and contribute to ongoing program evaluation and improvement.
- Stay current with evidence-based math research and instructional best practices at the intermediate level.
Family & Community Engagement
- Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress and strategies to support math development at home.
- Assist with parent workshops or informational sessions related to math development when appropriate
Terms of Employment
- Salary, teaching schedule, and benefits in accordance with the EITA contract
- Appointment subject to Board of Education approval
Work Environment
- Instructional settings may include classrooms, small-group rooms, or intervention spaces
- Collaboration with teachers and staff across grade levels
- Work schedule aligned with the school calendar
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district procedures, New York State regulations, and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
