This role focuses on maintaining and improving the Basic Process Control System (BPCS) or Safety Instrumented System (SIS) across ammonia, urea, nitric acid, shipping, and utilities units. The position plays a key role in implementing process control strategies, supporting capital projects, and sustaining compliance with PSM and functional safety standards.What you will do:Process Control & AutomationServe as site expert for various Control Systems, include but not limited to: Yokogawa CENTUM VP, Tricon/CX, APACS/Quadlog, Siemens PCS7, WonderWare, Alen Bradly, Rockwell, Compressor controls, Woodward, Peak150/200, G11, and Bently NevadaDevelop, implement, and optimize control logic, interlocks, and advanced control strategies to improve process safety, reliability, and efficiencyTroubleshoot control system and instrumentation issues affecting process loops such as ammonia synthesis loops, reformers, absorbers, urea reactors, etcMaintain control system documentation, loop drawings, and change management recordsPossess an understanding and ability to work in virtual environments, Thin Manager services, and aid the site with cybersecurity readinessProvide instrument engineering support for various field devices and installations, including but not limited to: Engineered Control Valves, Various flow elements, Thermowell Design, and Analytical measurements of the processStay abreast on new and changing instrument technologyProficient in various programming languages, ladder logic, function block, C&E, batch, and sequential function blockLead and support DCS and SIS scope for capital projects and system modernization effortsDefine control narratives, I/O lists, and interface specifications for new installations and revampsSupport FAT/SAT testing, commissioning, and startup of new process control systemsCollaborate with EPC firms and system vendors to ensure design consistency with site standardsProcess Safety & ComplianceEnsure all automation changes comply with PSM , MOC , and ISA 84 / IEC 61511 requirementsParticipate in PHA , SILD , and SIS lifecycle activities , including SIF validation and proof testingSupport alarm management, trip testing, and control system cybersecurity initiativesOperational Support & Continuous ImprovementProvide real‑time troubleshooting and optimization support to operations and maintenanceAnalyze process data and recommend control improvements to reduce variability and increase production efficiencyMentor junior engineers and technicians in process control fundamentals and system troubleshootingParticipate in on‑call rotation for automation supportWhat you will bring:A degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Control Systems Engineering is required from an ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited universityMinimum 5 years of process control experience in a fertilizer industry or large‑scale chemical plantStrong understanding of process instrumentation and control loopsExperience applying ISA 84 / IEC 61511 functional safety standards and supporting MOC/PSM activitiesFamiliar with PLC/DCS network architecture, Modbus/OPC communication, and control system cybersecurity best practicesExcellent analytical, problem‑solving, and troubleshooting skillsStrong teamwork and communication across operations, maintenance, and engineering groupsAbility to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively in a fast‑paced production environmentCommitment to a culture of safety, reliability, and continuous improvementStrong written and verbal communication skills are required.
