Overview:

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking Process Controls Engineers or Technical Specialists to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site.

 

The Engineer or Specialist in the Process Controls organization is responsible for designing and maintaining Process Control Systems that typically include Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. These systems provide direct, real-time or simulated control of plant production; typically controlling multiple physical devices such as motors and valves, and receiving feedback from multiple devices such as temperature, pressure and position transducers. 

Responsibilities:
  • Gather information concerning the capabilities of process control systems and investigate technical capabilities.
  • Analyze customer problems and assist in designing systems to satisfy customer needs.
  • Prepare equipment analysis to instruct customers in equipment capabilities.
  • Document, test, maintain, and debug applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
  • Determine computer user needs, analyze system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls of limited scope.
  • Prepare operating instructions on assigned work.
  • May conduct research and testing of electrical or mechanical hardware related to process controls.
  • Ensure reliability, develop technical specifications for production, analyze hardware configuration and processing solutions, and test hardware conformance to specifications based on well-defined processes.
  • Design new or modify existing products following specific detailed instructions.
  • Test, document, operate and maintain software and firmware components and computing systems software to be applied to and integrated with process controls mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Apply the appropriate standards, processes, procedures and tools throughout the system.
  • Review developments in hardware and software provided by higher level developers and/or managers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

To qualify for the Specialist position:

  • High school diploma, Associate's degree, Bachelor's degree in a non-Engineering discipline, or Bachelor's degree in an Engineering Technology
  • Process control system and instrumentation experience

To qualify for the Engineer position:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Process control system and instrumentation experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Savannah River Site experience in Process Controls, Maintenance, or E&I
  • Understanding of concepts, techniques, practices and procedures for process controls functions and tasks
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
