Job Description

Process Deployment & Software Implementation Contractor Animal Nutrition

Location: Inver Grove Heights, MN

Onsite Flexibility: Hybrid Flexible/Remote with approximately 50 60% travel across the Animal Nutrition plant network

Contract Details

  • Position Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 6 months (with potential extension based on rollout progress)
  • Pay Rate: $50.00 $60.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Travel Requirements: Approximately 50 60% across the Animal Nutrition plant network (~10 13 locations), including hands-on, floor-level work at select sites not site visits alone.
  • Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Job Summary

This is a deployment and plant onboarding role, not a process-design role. The internal CHS Animal Nutrition team develops and approves the standardized inbound and outbound inventory process. Once that process is agreed, this contractor rolls it out across the plant network onboarding each site (approx. 10), supporting the enabling software, proving the process works in practice, gathering feedback where it is not working, and convening the internal team to respond and adjust.

The work improves inbound and outbound material and transaction data flows, supported by new software and standardized operating processes. The environment includes receiving-automation tooling for PO and scale-based receiving, with an existing ERP as the system of record and interim systems and BI used during the transition. The objective is to improve inventory accuracy and provide timely, reliable, near real-time inventory visibility for plant operations and supporting business functions which underpins customer service, order management, scheduling adherence, and Available-to-Promise (ATP) confidence.

This is a dedicated, highly available role added to accelerate deployment, so the internal team does not have to personally run every rollout. At select sites the contractor will physically perform hand-count inventories and receiving, side-by-side with plant operations, to prove out the approved process and confirm it is sound and sustainable. This is not a desk or advisory-only role. Inbound / receiving standardization is the initial priority (beginning with pilot sites); outbound follows in a later phase.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deploy the approved, standardized inbound and outbound inventory process across the plant network taking the agreed standard from documentation to live use at each site.
  • At select sites, personally perform hand-count inventories and receiving alongside operations to prove out the approved process in real conditions before scaling.
  • Develop site-specific rollout plans, readiness assessments, go-live checklists, and stabilization plans; lead on-site onboarding sessions and floor walk-throughs.
  • Sequence work inbound-first (receiving: bulk, scale, and PO receipts) at pilot sites, then support outbound onboarding in a later phase; apply lessons learned to speed each subsequent rollout.
  • Gather feedback from plant teams, distinguishing genuine process gaps from adoption issues, and convene the internal team to agree adjustments or approved exceptions routing process-change decisions back for approval rather than redesigning the standard independently.
  • Support software deployment: partner with IT, vendors, and plant teams on readiness; support testing, UAT, data validation, cutover, go-live, and stabilization; validate that system transactions match physical material movement.
  • Work hands-on with the operating environment (receiving-automation tooling, the ERP system of record, interim systems, BI, and plant weigh-scale systems), reconciling physical counts and scale activity to system inventory records.
  • Deliver or coordinate training and coaching for plant personnel; support the transition of receiving responsibilities from back-office teams to plant operations, securing adoption and accountability.
  • Monitor adherence through periodic site reviews, process observations, and transaction audits; investigate root causes of variances and deviations, escalate systemic issues, and track corrective actions to closure.
  • Maintain an integrated rollout plan, site schedule, issue log, risk register, decision log, and action tracker; provide regular status reporting and escalate material risks promptly.
  • Return to sites to re-verify inventory and receiving after go-live, confirming the process remains sound once the plant team is running it independently.

Expected Deliverables

  • Integrated deployment roadmap and rollout schedule for the plant network.
  • Site-readiness assessments, rollout plans, go-live checklists, and stabilization plans built on the approved standard.
  • Site onboarding materials, training, and job aids; documented on-site hand-count / receiving validation results by pilot site.
  • Structured site-feedback log with recommended adjustments routed to the internal team for approval.
  • Software testing, user-acceptance, and data-validation support documentation.
  • Adoption, transaction-timeliness, data-quality, and process-adherence monitoring approach.
  • Regular deployment-status reports, risk and issue logs, and lessons-learned recommendations.

Engagement Success Measures

  • Timely rollout and consistent per-site adoption of the approved standard process and supporting software.
  • Approved process proven out on-site through hands-on validation and confirmed sustainable after the plant team takes it over.
  • A timely, well-documented feedback loop site issues surfaced, brought to the internal team, and resolved.
  • Measurable improvement in inventory accuracy and reduced unexplained variances, with better alignment between physical and system-recorded inventory.
  • Improved downstream outcomes that depend on inventory: scheduling adherence, ATP confidence, and fewer customer-service and order-management disruptions.
  • Freed internal team capacity by absorbing day-to-day deployment load across the plant network.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated experience deploying or rolling out standardized processes and operational software across multiple sites.
  • Experience implementing business, inventory, manufacturing, warehouse, ERP, or related operational software.
  • Understanding of inventory control, material movements, receiving, shipping, production transactions, and reconciliation practices.
  • Strong change-management, facilitation, stakeholder-management, and user-adoption skills; able to manage multiple site deployments and competing priorities.
  • Comfortable executing an approved standard rather than authoring it holding the line on a defined process while capturing legitimate site feedback and escalating it to the process owners for decision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, effective with both frontline plant personnel and leadership; proficient with Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and project/issue-tracking tools.
  • Immediate, high availability with near-full-time focus, able to travel approximately 50 60% and to work on the plant floor performing hand-count inventories and receiving in an active manufacturing environment.

Desired Competencies

  • A deployer / executor at heart energized by getting an approved standard live and adopted, not by redesigning it.
  • Practical and hands-on, with the ability to build trust and credibility with plant operations teams.
  • Strong attention to detail in process controls, transaction accuracy, and data quality; able to connect physical material movements with system transactions.
  • Effective at influencing and driving accountability without direct authority.
  • Skilled at gathering honest feedback from the floor and knowing when to solve locally versus escalate to the process owners.
  • Organized and self-directed across a broad, geographically dispersed plant network.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in feed manufacturing, animal nutrition, agriculture, food production, or a comparable manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with ERP, warehouse management, manufacturing execution, inventory, scale, shipping, receiving, or production-reporting systems, including legacy ERP platforms, weigh-scale / receiving systems, and receiving-automation solutions.
  • Experience rolling out inventory-accuracy, transaction-discipline, or real-time inventory reporting improvements across multiple sites.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, continuous-improvement, project-management, or change-management certification.
  • Familiarity with plant safety requirements and working in industrial operating environments.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Information Systems, Business, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Role requires hands-on, floor-level work at select plant sites not site visits alone.
  • Contractor will physically perform hand-count inventories and receiving side-by-side with plant operations in an active manufacturing environment.
  • Approximately 50 60% travel across the Animal Nutrition plant network (~10 13 locations).
  • Must be able to work on the plant floor performing hand-count inventories and receiving.
  • Familiarity with plant safety requirements and working in industrial operating environments is preferred.

Benefits

  • Medical, Vision, and Dental Insurance Plans
  • 401k Retirement Fund
