Eichleay is seeking an early-career Process Engineer to join our team in Ferndale, Washington (WA). This Process Engineering role is ideal for engineers looking to gain hands-on experience in refinery, oil & gas, and industrial process environments while building a strong technical foundation in a consulting setting.

In this role, you will work directly with senior engineers on active industrial and process design projects, contributing to real engineering deliverables while developing core skills in process engineering, simulation, and plant operations. You’ll have opportunities to gain exposure to one or more of the following areas in refining, energy, chemicals, power generation, and life sciences industries.

Compensation: Starting at $75,000 *Anticipated annual salary may vary based on skills, experience, qualifications and internal peer equity. The pay range listed for this position is based on the anticipated base compensation at the time of the posting.

Key Responsibilities:

In this role, you’ll support a variety of process engineering tasks while learning how projects are executed in a consulting environment. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Assist with development of heat and material balances and basic process calculations.
  • Support process simulation efforts using tools such as HYSYS.
  • Help develop process deliverables including PFDs, P&IDs, line lists, and equipment lists.
  • Participate in process safety activities such as PHAs, HAZOPs, and design reviews.
  • Work with senior engineers to evaluate process systems and identify improvements.
  • Assist with equipment sizing and preparation of basic specifications.
  • Support vendor data review and coordination.
  • Contribute to process documentation including basis of design and process descriptions.
  • Use collaboration tools such as Bluebeam and Microsoft Office to support project execution

This role is intended to build the foundation for a career in process engineering. Over time, you’ll gain experience in:

  • Process simulation and modeling.
  • Refinery and industrial facility operations.
  • Development and review of engineering deliverables.
  • Participation in safety and hazard analysis processes.

You’ll work closely with experienced engineers who will guide your development and provide mentorship as you progress toward taking on more independent responsibilities.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Less than one year or up to 4 years of experience, including REQUIRED internship, co-op, or relevant hands-on engineering experience (candidates with no practical experience will not be considered).
  • Prior exposure to industrial, manufacturing, refinery, or plant environments through internships, co-ops, or project work.
  • Ability to work on-site in Ferndale, WA on a hybrid schedule (not a fully remote role).
  • Demonstrated interest in refinery or industrial process environments.

Skills:

  • Familiarity with process simulation tools (e.g., HYSYS, Pro/II).
  • Exposure to PFDs, P&IDs, or other process deliverables.
  • Basic understanding of process safety concepts (PHA, HAZOP, etc.).
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and document tools (e.g., Bluebeam or similar).
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to learn and take on new challenges.

Travel: Travel to local clients will be required and there can be at least one day per week for meetings. Travel outside the area is expected to be minimal, less than 10%

Industry Requirements: This role will require all or some of the following requirements at time of hire or during employment

  • HHFT Safety Training and current card or ability to obtain.
  • Client Safety Training and current badge or ability to obtain.
  • TWIC Certification and current card or ability to obtain. TWIC card must be obtained prior to start date or start date may need to be adjusted.
  • Background screening including previous employment, education, criminal history, and driving record verification.
  • Participation in random drug and alcohol programs.

  • Job duties will be performed at a client site, production facility or industrial/construction job site.
