The Process Engineer II is responsible for supporting, troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving manufacturing processes and equipment within an electronics manufacturing environment. This role will work closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, and equipment vendors to optimize manufacturing processes, improve yields, reduce defects, and support new equipment and process initiatives.
Program, troubleshoot, maintain, and optimize manufacturing process equipment, including:
Screen printers
Pick-and-place equipment
Reflow ovens
Wave soldering
Selective soldering
Automated Optical Inspection (AOI)
5DX or similar inspection equipment
Evaluate and support the implementation of solders, fluxes, process materials, and new manufacturing equipment.
Support new equipment installations, qualifications, and process implementations.
Monitor and maintain aqueous cleaning systems and ionic contamination testing equipment to established standards and customer/IPC requirements.
Analyze test data, yield data, and manufacturing defects to identify root causes and drive process improvements.
Make appropriate adjustments to equipment and manufacturing processes to improve quality, productivity, and yield.
Develop, present, and obtain approval for capital investment proposals and equipment upgrades.
Partner with Production to identify and implement opportunities that improve revenue, reduce costs, increase efficiency, and optimize manufacturing processes.
Prepare technical reports, process documentation, and other required reports.
Provide technical guidance and support to machine operators and production personnel.
Develop and communicate alternate methods for resolving or preventing process, technical, and production issues.
Work collaboratively with Engineering, Quality, Production, Supply Chain, and other functional teams.
Coordinate with outside equipment, material, and process vendors as needed.
Ensure compliance with Environmental Health and Safety requirements.
Support applicable ISO and Quality Management System requirements.
Support site-wide 6S and continuous improvement initiatives.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) manufacturing processes.
Knowledge of documentation control and manufacturing documentation practices.
Knowledge of wave soldering and other electronic assembly processes.
Ability to troubleshoot and optimize automated manufacturing equipment.
Ability to analyze process, yield, and defect data and translate findings into process improvements.
Working knowledge of IPC standards and requirements.
Ability to communicate effectively with production personnel, engineering teams, management, and external vendors.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and continuous improvement skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced electronics manufacturing environment.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience within the electronics manufacturing industry.
Hands-on experience supporting manufacturing processes and equipment.
Experience with lead-free manufacturing processes preferred.
Experience with SMT, soldering, inspection, and electronic assembly processes strongly preferred.
Experience with IPC-A-610 and related electronics manufacturing standards preferred.
