Process Engineer – Molding, Blow Molding, Compression Molding, Extrusion

Company:

Our client is a rapidly expanding, multi‑location manufacturer of proprietary polymer products. With significant growth underway, they are seeking a Process Engineer to lead key process improvement initiatives and support ongoing operational excellence.

The Process Engineer will play a hands‑on, highly visible role in optimizing molding and assembly processes from design through product launch. This position will drive improvements in yield, reduce scrap, refine SOPs, and support the successful introduction of new molded products and tooling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Optimize molding processes to improve yield and reduce scrap across molding, fixtures, and assembly from design through launch
  • Manage process improvement projects, including refining SOPs and optimizing processing parameters for existing products
  • Provide hands‑on materials processing expertise to ensure consistent, high‑quality production
  • Lead the successful introduction of new injection‑molded products, including tooling validation and creation of SOPs
  • Partner with production and maintenance teams to implement new process standards, safety improvements, and equipment enhancements
  • Coordinate continuous improvement and production process refinement initiatives

Qualifications

Process Engineer Requirements

  • BSME, BS Plastics Engineering, or similar technical degree preferred; extensive molding experience may substitute
  • Minimum 2 years of Process Engineering experience in injection molding, blow molding, or compression molding
  • Strong processing and troubleshooting skills, including new tool setup, running first shots, and guiding products from first shot to full production
  • Experience creating SOPs, SWIs, BOMs, and applying lean manufacturing, quality control, or Six Sigma tools
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to independently manage multiple initiatives

Why This Is a Great Opportunity

  • Work for a fast‑growing, innovative manufacturer with aggressive expansion plans
  • Significant opportunity for career advancement as the company continues to scale
  • High‑impact role with visibility across engineering, production, and leadership teams

nternal notes:

  • 10% bonus
  • Multi-placement client over the past 2 years.
  • Working directly with the hiring manager and not HR.
  • Actual location is Washington, IA, but can't advertise within 20 miles per company agreement (it's about 35 miles outside of Iowa City)
  • Looking for self-directed engineers who are very hands-on and problem-solvers.
  • Client is a compression molding company, and that experience is ideal. May consider other plastics, but compression molding will move fast.
  • Will relocate
