Position Overview
Senior technical lead responsible for defining, delivering and commissioning complex process engineering projects primarily in life sciences and food & beverage sectors. Owns design quality, technical scope, budget performance and vendor coordination from concept through construction and handover. Drives HAZOP/HACCP risk assessments, prepares specifications and calculations, mentors engineering staff and liaises with clients to ensure compliant, efficient and constructible process systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead process engineering for medium to large capital projects, ensuring technical integrity, schedule adherence and budget control.
- Develop and review process flow diagrams, P&IDs, 3D models and detailed drawings to meet project requirements and regulatory standards (cGMP/FDA where applicable).
- Prepare engineering calculations, equipment specifications, datasheets and technical submittals; review vendor documentation and manage submittal and RFI processes.
- Coordinate and lead HAZOP/HACCP workshops and other formal risk assessments; define mitigation actions and update designs accordingly.
- Manage commissioning and start-up activities, including development of FAT/SAT protocols, commissioning plans and punch-list closeout.
- Implement and maintain quality control processes for drawings, specifications and deliverables; ensure constructability and compliance with project scope.
- Control scope changes, prepare cost estimates and support budget forecasting; work with project management to manage commercial impacts of technical changes.
- Provide technical direction to construction teams and vendors on site; review contractor work, resolve technical issues and ensure safe execution of process installation.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers; review technical work products and foster continuous improvement in engineering practices and standards.
- Serve as client technical point of contact; present technical proposals, progress updates and support approvals and regulatory inspections.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering (Masters preferred).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license a plus!
- 10+ years of relevant process engineering experience with demonstrated leadership on capital projects in life sciences, pharmaceutical or food & beverage industries.
- Proven experience with process design deliverables (Revit/PDMS/SmartPlant/AutoCAD), equipment specifications, calculations and vendor submittals.
- Hands-on experience with HAZOP and HACCP assessments, commissioning, FAT/SAT and start-up activities.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, scopes of work, budgets and change control.
- Experience managing vendor relationships, procurement support and review of supplier documentation.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management and leadership skills; proven ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and construction partners.
- Proficient with engineering software and MS Office; familiarity with process simulation and calculation tools a plus.
- Willingness to travel to project sites and interact with construction teams as required.
