Process Engineer

The Process Engineer reports to the Manufacturing Operations Manager and plays a hands-on role in shaping how work gets done on the factory floor. This position leads and supports process improvement initiatives focused on yield, cycle time, quality, cost, safety, and manufacturing flow while helping bring new equipment and processes successfully into production. The Process Engineer will have the opportunity to work with and expand emerging manufacturing technologies, including collaborative robotics (cobots), 3-D printing/additive manufacturing, automation, rapid prototyping, and innovative production tooling. From developing concepts and solving shop-floor problems to programming equipment, optimizing processes, and implementing new methods, this role offers the opportunity to turn ideas into practical solutions that can be seen and measured in production. The Process Engineer also develops and improves process documentation, work instructions, training, and transfer criteria to ensure new processes are implemented safely, effectively, and sustainably.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Create detailed work instructions and visual aids to support acceptable production productivity and quality standards.
• Estimate production set up and run times, material costs, and perform time studies to provide cost analysis.
• Propose, sponsor and lead projects that improve manufacturing performance, reduce costs, improve yields, or reduce cycle times using Lean manufacturing tools. Analyze work flow, space requirements, and equipment layouts.
• Assist in designing testing methods to evaluate process capabilities, establish standards, and validate process requirements.
• Work with plant safety and engineering groups to ensure manufacturing processes, equipment, and proposed improvements meet applicable safety requirements.
• Create and maintain production data and Routings (Bills of Operations).
• Assist with the selection, installation, setup, and startup of machines and equipment within production areas, including programming, workholding, and fixturing.
• Support collaborative robotics (cobot) applications - from identifying opportunities and developing concepts through programming, integration, and continuous improvement - to make work safer, smarter, and more productive.
• Help drive the adoption and expansion of 3-D printing/additive manufacturing, using rapid prototyping and production tooling to move ideas from concept to the shop floor faster.
• Make every effort to focus on doing-it-right to make sure the customer is happy or satisfied with our units
• Provide value to our customers by using Lean tools and concepts to identify and eliminate waste in all forms (scrap/rework, transportation, motion, waiting, inventory, over production, over processing, and under-utilization of people). Uses systemic thinking by seeing processes from end to end and works to challenge the status quo to eliminate the root cause of problems. Is involved in individual and/or team activities that involve using Lean tools and concepts to improve the flow of information and material.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to perform 5S activities which include applying tape to floors (on hands and knees) periodically.
• Must be able to do computer work (sitting or standing) for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to walk/stand for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to lift/carry 25 lbs.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant education and/or process engineering experience.
• Experience with Microsoft Office.
• Self-starter who is able to work independently while meeting expectations with minimal supervision.
• Strong organizational and time management skills – able to effectively plan, prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects.
• Strong attention to detail with excellent communication skills.
• Highly motivated, results-oriented, customer-focused, and committed to achieving organizational goals.
• Excellent listening, interpretation, and reasoning skills.
• Experience with Continuous Improvement tools and methodologies is a plus.
• Ability to work more than 40 hours per week when required.
