JOB SUMMARY:
The Process Engineer will provide technical process engineering support across assigned projects, supporting the development, analysis, and execution of process systems. Positions are available at multiple levels, ranging from intermediate design engineers to senior and principal-level leads.
Depending on experience, individuals may perform engineering design work, support complex process calculations, or provide leadership and oversight for process engineering scope, ensuring technical accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and review process design criteria, calculations, and specifications
- Prepare and review Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and related engineering documents
- Perform process calculations, simulations, and system analyses
- Support development of:
- Heat and material balances
- Process flow diagrams (PFDs)
- Equipment lists and process datasheets
- Utility summaries and system design inputs
- Participate in or support Hazard Analyses (HazOp / PHA)
- Coordinate technical issues with multi-disciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, project management, etc.)
- Provide technical support for:
- Procurement activities (bid evaluations, vendor submittals)
- Construction (RFIs, field changes, commissioning support)
- Ensure work is executed in accordance with:
- Project scope, cost, and schedule baselines
- Applicable procedures, codes, and standards
Additional for Senior / Principal Levels:
- Lead process engineering scope for assigned areas or projects
- Provide technical guidance and oversight to engineers and designers
- Develop project estimates, schedules, and progress reports
- Interface with clients, vendors, and stakeholders on technical matters
WORK HOURS:
A standard 40-hour work week is scheduled. Additional hours may be required to meet project deliverables.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Nuclear Engineering
Experience by Level:
- Design Engineer (Mid-Level): Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
- Senior Design Engineer: Minimum 10 years of relevant experience
- Principal Design Engineer: Minimum 15 years of relevant experience
Candidate must possess all the following experience and/or skills:
- Experience supporting process system design and engineering deliverables
- Proficiency with:
- P&IDs
- Process calculations and system analysis
- Engineering documentation and specifications
- Working knowledge of:
- Federal, state, and local codes and standards
- Ability to coordinate across multi-discipline engineering teams
- Strong communication and technical problem-solving skills
OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- US Citizenship required
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance if required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience supporting large EPC projects
- Experience with:
- Process simulations
- HazOp / Process Hazard Analysis
- Nuclear or DOE project environments
- Experience developing:
- PFDs, P&IDs
- Equipment/process datasheets
- System design documentation
