Process Safety Engineer / Process Safety Management (PSM) Specialist

A leading global specialty chemical manufacturer is seeking an experienced Process Safety Engineer to support and enhance Process Safety Management (PSM) programs across multiple manufacturing facilities. This role is ideal for a safety-focused engineering professional who is passionate about operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement in a chemical manufacturing environment.
Reporting to the Process Safety Lead, you will serve as a subject matter expert for process safety systems, risk management, and regulatory compliance while partnering with operations, maintenance, engineering, projects, and HSE teams to drive a strong safety culture.

This role is ideal for a safety-focused engineering professional who is passionate about operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement in a chemical manufacturing environment.
Reporting to the Process Safety Lead, you will serve as a subject matter expert for process safety systems, risk management, and regulatory compliance while partnering with operations, maintenance, engineering, projects, and HSE teams to drive a strong safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), HAZOPs, and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) for new projects and modifications.
- Review, monitor, and close action items resulting from PHAs, risk assessments, and safety reviews.
- Administer and support the Management of Change (MOC) program, including workflow management and action tracking.
- Participate in and lead incident investigations using recognized root cause analysis methodologies.
- Review capital project requests to identify applicable process safety requirements and ensure compliance throughout project execution.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for process safety methodologies, including:
- HAZOP
- LOPA
- Safety Integrity Level (SIL)
- Risk Assessment and Risk Management
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to process safety performance.
- Ensure compliance with applicable process safety and risk management regulations and recognized industry best practices.
- Plan, facilitate, and participate in audits of Process Safety Management systems and programs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to strengthen operational safety and regulatory compliance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of Process Safety Management experience within the chemical manufacturing, refining, petrochemical, or related process industries.
- Strong knowledge of:
- OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM)
- EPA Risk Management Program (RMP)
- NFPA standards
- API recommended practices
- Experience leading or facilitating PHAs and risk assessments using methodologies such as HAZOP and LOPA.
- Strong understanding of chemical processes, industrial equipment, and manufacturing operations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with Safety Integrity Level (SIL) studies, Fault Tree Analysis, and other quantitative risk assessment methodologies.
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional process safety initiatives.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
