Description
Language Table Program Assistants play an important role in supporting one of Middlebury College's signature academic traditions. Working alongside the Language Table Managers, Middlebury Dining, and the Academic Departments, they help create a welcoming, organized environment that encourages language learning, cultural exchange, and community.
This position supports the daily setup and breakdown of the Language Table dining spaces and assists with the self-service dining experience. Language Table Program Assistants serve as ambassadors for the program by providing excellent customer service, maintaining attractive food stations, and promoting shared responsibility for the dining environment.
This is a Middlebury student Level A position paying $14.50 per hour.
Responsibilities
Assist with the daily setup and breakdown of Language Table dining and food service areas.
Prepare table signage, menus, and program materials before each meal period.
Welcome participants and direct them to the appropriate Language Table.
Assist with reservations and check-in procedures as needed.
Answer menu-related questions and provide general program support to participants.
Set up, monitor, and maintain the self-service food stations, including the hot food line, salad bar, dessert station, and beverage station.
Ensure food stations remain clean, organized, attractive, and fully stocked throughout the meal period.
Oversee the bussing station by encouraging participants to empty liquids, compost food waste, sort silverware, stack dishes, and leave their space ready for the next group.
Communicate operational concerns or feedback to the Language Table Manager.
Follow all Middlebury Dining and Vermont Department of Health food safety and sanitation standards.
