POSITION PURPOSE

Maintaining adequate supplies of steel inventory to meet the Commercial and Operational requirements at SSAB CTL operations. Provides oversight and functional responsibilities for the purchasing of MRO supplies and services at both the Houston, Tx and Toronto facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Manage discrete plate, coil, and CTL inventories in support of Commercial activities at SSAB CTL operations.

  • Develop and maintain a business plan in support of corporate goals for total inventory, turnover rates, and aged inventory.
  • Place purchase orders with SSAB mills and 3rd party suppliers into accordance with specifications and delivery requirements.
  • Assure the timely receipt, in good order, of all steel products purchased/ordered.
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers and relevant SSAB departments (Sales, Planning, and Transportation) in pursuit of these activities.
  • Provide reports relevant to supply chain activities to business owners and team members. This could include daily, weekly, and monthly reports (as needed).
  • File claims with mills or 3rd party supplier as required.
  • Approve requisitions, place purchase orders, and expedite as required.
  • Facilitate MRO related projects and contracts as needed.
  • Assure compliance to all SSAB corporate policies and procedures.
  • Fully participate with procurement peers in sourcing events, systems, initiatives, and other activities as required.
  • Administer procurement systems as assigned.
  • Maintain purchasing and supplier management records as required by the company's Quality Management System, document retention policy, financial requirements, and other company directives.

Manage MRO supplies for CTL.

QUALIFICATIONS

Competencies and Experience

Required:

  • Good computer skills and strong competency with MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to multi-task with shifting priorities.

  • Possess attention to detail and strong organizational skills

  • High standards of accuracy and professionalism

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Preferred:

  • Minimum of 2-5 years in a purchasing role.

  • Experience with purchasing-related systems such as Ariba, Maintenance Connection, Avetta, SAP, TEAMS, and/or SharePoint.

Education

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or significant work experience in relevant field.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee will frequently be required to:

  • This position operates in an office environment. The role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and scanners. This role is partially sedentary, sitting for several hours at desk. Additional activity of walking to/from and standing at alternative work areas (e.g. photocopiers, paper shredders, mailroom); alternate sitting and standing as needed. Filing and handling materials is required. This requires the use of hands to finger, hold, handle, reach with hands and arms and to lift and/or carry items up to 30 lbs.

The employee will occasionally be required to:

  • This position would periodically require work in the mill environment with some exposure to heat/cold, walking/stairs, noise and wearing safety equipment/clothing for protection from hazards for plant tours
  • Drive for departmental errands and trainings

The position requires the following vision and hearing capabilities:

POSITION TYPE - WORK HOURS - TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Position is full time, exempt, and is not eligible for overtime
  • Position works an eight (8) hour day shift, Monday through Friday, occasional overtime may be required
  • Travel for this position is limited and expected to comprise less than 5% of work hours.
