Job Description:
  • Our client is seeking a Product Development Specialist to support the Lip Category within the Product Development team. This position reports directly to the Senior Manager, Product Development and plays a key role in bringing innovative lip products from concept through development.
  • The ideal candidate is highly organized, passionate about color cosmetics, and has a strong understanding of makeup artistry, color theory, and texture innovation. This individual will partner closely with laboratories, packaging, marketing, regulatory, and cross-functional teams to translate creative product concepts into high-performing, market-ready products while ensuring quality, performance, and brand standards are met.
  • Evaluate and provide detailed feedback on laboratory submissions, including formula performance, shade accuracy, texture, finish, and packaging components.
  • Assess formulas for application, payoff, wear, comfort, scent, stability, and overall product performance, communicating clear recommendations and modifications to laboratory partners.
  • Assist in developing detailed technical and creative product briefs outlining performance expectations, benchmark products, shade direction, texture goals, and aesthetic requirements.
  • Provide color direction to laboratories by recommending shade adjustments, undertone modifications, and color matching across a diverse range of skin tones to support inclusive product development.
  • Track and manage multiple formula iterations, maintain organized development records, and document feedback throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Coordinate internal product evaluation panels to collect feedback on formula performance, texture, comfort, and ease of application.
  • Conduct ongoing competitive benchmarking of global lip products, monitoring market leaders, ingredient innovations, emerging technologies, and consumer trends.
  • Research and present new product concepts, innovative textures, application formats, and trending color palettes inspired by the evolving beauty landscape.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Packaging, Regulatory, and laboratory partners to ensure products meet timeline, quality, and performance objectives.
Required Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Cosmetology, Marketing, Business, or another related scientific or creative field.
  • 2–4 years of product development experience within the cosmetics industry, preferably focused on color cosmetics. Experience developing lip products is strongly preferred.
  • Previous beauty retail or professional makeup artistry experience is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of color theory, shade development, and cosmetic texture evaluation preferred.
  • Excellent visual color perception (must be able to pass a color vision assessment) and the ability to accurately evaluate and describe sensory attributes such as slip, drag, cushion, tackiness, payoff, and wear.
