Our client, a premium scent company based in Somerset, NJ, is looking to hire a Product Device Engineer. They focus on making their products from sustainably sourced materials using clean, high-quality fragrance oil. Salary/Hourly Rate:
$140k - 160k Depending on experience + plus bonus.

Position Overview:
The Product Device Engineer will lead the design, testing, and implementation of fragrance diffusion devices. This role supports the fragrance diffuser product line and requires experience with device-based packaging, including heat-activated and diffusion system technologies. The Product Device Engineer ensures the device meets functional, quality, and regulatory standards while optimizing for cost and efficiency. The position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams and external suppliers to deliver scalable, high-performing packaging solutions. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Relocation assistance is available for those open to relocation to NJ. Remote candidates must be open to frequent travel to New Jersey.

Responsibilities of the Product Device Engineer:
  • Lead the design and development of fragrance diffusion devices from concept through commercialization.
  • Develop mechanical components, assemblies, and system architectures for consumer products.
  • Evaluate and improve diffusion performance, scent delivery, reliability, and user experience.
  • Work with external manufacturing partners to develop and qualify components and finished devices.
  • Create 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, prototypes, and technical specifications.
  • Conduct design verification and validation testing.
  • Evaluate heating systems, fluid delivery mechanisms, air flow paths, and diffusion technologies.
  • Collaborate with R&D teams to ensure fragrance formulations are compatible with device materials and delivery systems.
  • Support troubleshooting of design, manufacturing, and performance issues.
  • Drive innovation in home fragrance technologies and consumer device design.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Product Development, Project Management, Engineering, Operations) and global suppliers to ensure packaging meets objectives.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive test plans to ensure the device exceeds customer specifications.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives related to device materials, labor, and logistics.
Required Experience/Skills for the Product Device Engineer:
  • Experience with device-based packaging, including heat-activated and diffusion system technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovative product design initiatives that balance aesthetics, functionality, and manufacturability.
  • Experience working closely with product development, formulation, and R&D teams to ensure packaging systems are compatible with fragrance and other product formulations.
  • 5+ years designing consumer products or devices.
  • Strong knowledge of device design validation standards (ISO, ASTM) and drafting/specification standards.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and 3D modeling (SolidWorks preferred); experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping.
  • Experience designing and developing devices from concept to implementation.
  • Familiarity with regulated environments (FDA) and hazardous goods (e.g., lithium batteries, fragrance solvents).
  • Remote candidates must be open to frequent travel to New Jersey.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Product Device Engineer:
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Suite applications.
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
