Job Title: Product Engineer

Job Description

The Product Engineer is responsible for all dimensional characteristics and tooling related to the investment casting process and associated products, spanning both new development and production castings. Working in close partnership with a Process Engineer who manages metallurgical aspects, this role focuses on engineering the highest yield and lowest overall cost products while meeting or exceeding all customer-defined quality requirements. The position is highly collaborative, combining analytical engineering work with hands-on interaction with the manufacturing team, and requires strong communication skills to work effectively across all levels of the organization and with external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design, construction, and implementation of manufacturing tooling for investment castings.
  • Optimize dimensional and core-related yields while maintaining minimum manufacturing costs.
  • Create detailed manufacturing routings and processing instructions to support efficient production.
  • Develop and debug processes for both production and developmental castings to ensure robust performance.
  • Actively pursue continuous improvement of existing processes, focusing on yield, cost, and quality enhancements.
  • Provide technical support to customers and interact with them regarding technical concerns and product-related issues.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, and translate them into practical manufacturing and process solutions.
  • Prepare clear and effective reports, business correspondence, and procedures to document engineering work and communicate recommendations.
  • Present technical information and respond to questions from internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • Solve practical engineering problems and handle a variety of variables in situations with limited standardization.
  • Interpret and follow instructions delivered in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form to drive projects to completion.
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing and other engineering team members in a team-based environment.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation by proactively driving improvements within an assigned portfolio of parts.
  • Support new product development initiatives, including design for manufacturability and process development.
  • Comply with all company attendance policies and guidelines, including regular attendance and some overtime as needed to support production demands.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, preferably in Engineering; Mechanical Engineering is highly preferred.
  • A non-engineering four-year degree may be considered with equivalent work-related engineering experience.
  • Approximately 5+ years of experience in Product Engineering in a manufacturing environment is ideal.
  • Demonstrated experience in manufacturing engineering, product design, and product development.
  • Proven experience in product improvement initiatives, including yield and cost optimization.
  • Industrial manufacturing experience, ideally in a process- or production-oriented setting, is highly preferred.
  • CAD experience is required, with SolidWorks strongly preferred; experience with NX or similar CAD software is beneficial.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ability to effectively write technical reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work with limited standardization and multiple variables.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to tasks such as analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, factor analysis, and test reliability and validity.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present information and respond to questions from internal teams and customers.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization in a collaborative, team-based environment.
  • Self-motivation with a demonstrated drive to continuously improve processes and products within an assigned portfolio.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Mechanical Engineering degree is highly preferred due to the nature of the investment casting and tooling work.
  • Leadership ability is desired, as this position benefits from being an influential engineer within the organization.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience is a plus, with potential advancement opportunities into roles such as Senior Engineer or Project Engineer in approximately 2-4 years.
  • Experience with new product development and process improvement in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with mechanical design in a manufacturing context, including design for manufacturability and tooling considerations.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes related to investment casting or similar casting processes is beneficial.
  • Comfort presenting technical information to managers, clients, customers, and broader groups.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt work hours occasionally based on product and process timing.

Work Environment

This is an on-site, full-time role based in a manufacturing environment, working Monday through Friday. Core hours are typically 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with occasional flexibility to start later and end later depending on product and process timing and production needs. The position involves frequent interaction with the shop floor, manufacturing personnel, and other engineers, as well as time spent at a workstation using CAD software such as SolidWorks and NX for design and process-related tasks. The environment supports substantial organizational growth and offers significant room for career development and internal movement, including advancement within the engineering team into more Senior or project-focused roles.
