Accountable for the design, development, qualification and production launch of new products. Participates in project teams utilizing applicable experience and education. Provides technical support of products in a production environment. Often works under the direction of a Product Engineer III.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develops, qualifies, and improves product designs while ensuring compliance to technical, quality and commercial requirements.
  • Coordinates and completes technical documentation relative to design & analysis / development & testing / qualification of products.
  • Ensures compliance to engineering codes, practices, and standards.
  • Supports Level III engineers in product / project proposals and concept development.
  • Participates in risk identification and mitigation plans.
  • Proficient in use of 3D CAD software to transition design concepts into 3D models & detail drawings.
  • Using knowledge of manufacturing processes & related capabilities – ensure that new product components are designed within process capabilities for anticipated manufacturing process(s).
  • Responsible for product drawing release through CN process for design to spec parts.
  • Creates finished drawings with B.O.M. from models / sketches.
  • Manages design change and updates, including releases for design to spec parts.
  • Responsible for developing DFMEA and participating in PFMEA activity.
  • Contact person for Quality, Production, and Supply Chain on NPI design to spec products.
  • Responsible for engineering to production transfer on design to spec parts.

 

Additional Duties:

  • Support ongoing production with troubleshooting, cause and corrective action analysis as needed.
  • Participates in continuous improvement events.
  • Provide support for Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives, companywide.
  • Other duties, reporting, special assignments, or projects as needed and assigned.
  • Must remain current with, and complete all required training as assigned.
  • Must adhere to Company Corporate EHS Policy and department, occupation, and task specific safety protocols, including but not limited to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in design or engineered product manufacturing environment with Aerospace experience strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment and capabilities as related to product line.
  • Ability to work closely with other engineers and interface with team members at all levels in the organization.
  • Familiar with standard engineering practices and concepts.
  • Excellent technical, written and oral communication skills.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
  • CATIA and / or Autodesk Inventor experience strongly preferred.
  • Lean Leader level II (or equivalent Lean training and experience) strongly preferred.
  • Must submit to and satisfactorily pass any pre-employment screening required for employment with the Company.
  • Must take medical exams required by law, in conjunction with occupation specific activities, the physical work environment, and ongoing industrial hygiene sampling results.
  • Depending on assignment, may be required to use stairs, remain upright and/or seated for prolonged timeframes, intermittently reposition the body per various tasks performed, and use various tools and work-related supplies.
  • May be required to perform manual lifting activities, not to exceed a 40lb lift performed by one individual.

       

      Education:

      • Four-year degree in engineering required (mechanical, electrical, aerospace, or manufacturing preferred) OR 10 – 15 years of progressive responsibility in a product design role in lieu of degree.
