Location: Warren, Michigan (Onsite)

Role Overview

As an Interior Design Release Engineer (DRE), you will serve as a technical authority for Instrument Panel (IP), floor console (FC), or decorative trim. You will lead the engineering development, integration, validation, and launch of these systems. This role focuses on safety, quality, technical excellence, and flawless execution to achieve cost, quality, mass, and performance targets across the vehicle portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, analysis, and validation of instrument panel and console subsystems.
• Perform engineering design evaluations and concept development across vehicle programs.
• Utilize engineering tools such as DFMEA, ICDs, and PFMEA to develop system solutions.
• Assess design for manufacturability, including processes like injection molding, vibration welding, and vacuum forming.
• Manage CAD development and package components, collaborating with other vehicle systems teams.
• Balance business imperatives, including cost, part count, mass, complexity, and timing.
• Communicate information with internal and external organizations and lead the product development team (PDT).
• Support the creation of Statements of Requirements (SOR) and lead the development of statements of work.
• Lead program launch activities with a focus on quality and on-time execution.
• Contribute to enterprise initiatives such as CAE-driven design, virtual execution, and automation.
• Travel as needed to support activities at supplier and company locations.

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace, Materials, or related).

Experience: 8-10 years in instrument panel, floor console, and decorative trim development, with exposure from product definition through launch.

Technical Skills:

• Expertise in injection molded trim, foam-in-place, thermoformed skins, and cut-and-sew wrapping of substrates.
• Knowledge of IP, IP Structure, and Floor Console performance requirements and applicable regulations.
• Proficiency in component/subsystem design, vehicle integration, and design for manufacturability.
• Mastery of DFMEA/DRBFM, ADVP&R development, and ICDs.
• Partnership with CAE to validate robustness and inform design iterations.
• DFSS Green Belt certification.
• Proficiency with CAD workflows, release processes, and visualization tools (e.g., VisMockup, NX/UniGraphics).
• Knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Project.

Preferred Qualifications

• DFSS Black Belt certification.
• Project management capability; PMI/PMP certification is preferred.
