Job Responsibilities: Product Sustainability Manager (North America)The Product Sustainability Manager is responsible for leading Magna's global sustainable product strategy by driving the integration of sustainable materials, product environmental foot printing, and supply chain sustainability initiatives across business units and product lines. The role serves as the central coordinator for sustainable materials deployment, Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs), Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) methodologies, and product sustainability governance to support Magna's sustainability commitments, customer requirements, and evolving regulatory obligations.
The position operates at the intersection of sustainability, engineering, procurement, regulatory compliance, supply chain management, and customer engagement. The incumbent must influence global stakeholders without direct authority, establish enterprise-wide methodologies for product sustainability assessments, balance environmental objectives against business and operational requirements, and lead implementation of sustainable materials and product carbon reduction strategies in a rapidly evolving regulatory and customer landscape. Success depends upon the ability to align diverse stakeholders, manage significant ambiguity, and drive measurable sustainability across Magna's global product portfolio.
Duties/Responsibilities:Sustainable Materials - Lead Magna's sustainable materials strategy across global product lines and business units.
- Develop and implement processes to increase the use of recycled, bio-based, renewable, and low-carbon materials in products.
- Coordinate with engineering, purchasing, suppliers, and group sustainability teams to identify opportunities for material innovation and circularity.
- Establish sustainable material targets, metrics, and reporting processes aligned with customer and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor emerging regulations, industry standards, and customer expectations related to sustainable materials and product sustainability.
- Support customer inquiries and sustainability-related product requirements from OEMs.
- Develop guidance, tools, and training materials to support implementation of sustainable materials initiatives across Magna.
- Represent Magna in industry working groups, trade associations, and customer engagements related to sustainable materials.
2) LCAs/PCFs- Lead the development and execution of product Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) calculations.
- Establish standardized methodologies, governance processes, and calculation approaches for product environmental footprints.
- Analyze and communicate environmental impacts associated with products, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Support customer requests for product carbon footprint data and environmental impact information.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and purchasing teams to identify product-level carbon reduction opportunities.
- Evaluate sustainability performance improvements resulting from material substitutions, process changes, and supplier initiatives.
- Develop dashboards and reporting tools to communicate LCA and PCF results to internal and external stakeholders.
