Position Overview

Gasser Chair is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Upholstery Associate to support the production of high-quality custom seating products within our manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for performing hands-on upholstery work, including fitting, stretching, stapling, and assembling materials such as fabric, vinyl, and foam to chair frames.

The Upholstery Associate will report to the Upholstery Supervisor and work closely with other members of the Upholstery department to ensure products meet design specifications, quality standards, and production timelines.

This position is ideal for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, has strong attention to detail, and takes pride in producing high-quality finished products.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Upholstery Assembly: Apply fabric, vinyl, and other upholstery materials to chair frames using hand and pneumatic tools.
  • Fit and Finish: Align, stretch, and secure materials to ensure a clean, tight finish that meets customer specifications and quality standards.
  • Inspection: Examine frames and materials for defects prior to and during upholstery; identify and address issues as needed.
  • Advanced Upholstery Tasks: Perform specialized work such as top stitching, double needle applications, and try-ons.
  • Process Adherence: Follow established work instructions and production processes to maintain consistency and quality.
  • Production Efficiency: Complete daily tasks in alignment with production schedules and efficiency targets.
  • Equipment Use: Safely operate upholstery tools and equipment, including staple guns, mallets, and scissors.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Upholstery Supervisor and team members to resolve issues and improve workflow.
  • Material Handling: Organize and manage materials at the workstation to ensure availability and minimize waste.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce waste, and enhance overall product quality.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment preferred.
  • Prior upholstery experience is a plus.
  • Comfortable using hand tools such as staple guns, scissors, and mallets.
  • Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to follow instructions and standardized work processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Good communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

 

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods (up to 10 hours per day) and perform repetitive hand and arm motions. The role involves bending, kneeling, and lifting materials up to 25 pounds. Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures. Personal protective equipment must be worn as required.
