The Supply Chain Management organization within the Weapons Production Directorate at Los Alamos National Laboratory (TRIAD) is looking for an exceptional Controlled Storage Custodian to join the Supply Chain Management Group (SCL-2). The selected candidate will manage construction and facility related material for the Associate Lab Director for Weapons Production (ALDWP). This is a vital part of ensuring construction, facility milestones, and deliverables are met. One will contribute to the resolutions of problems of moderately complex scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.

Job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Utilize multiple inventory management systems to maintain and verify inventory levels as well as ensure item traceability.
  • Ensure items are stored on shelves and organized that ensures expeditious item retrieval.
  • Locate, pull, and stage material for construction related activities.
  • Ensure material pulled is correct Management Level (ML) for end use application and complies with applicable codes and standards.
  • Comply with institution-controlled storage procedures, P330-11, 12, and 13.
  • Ensure material is controlled and defined storage level requirements are met (e.g., shelf-life enforcement, accuracy of inventory records, and maintenance or special handling of quality-affecting items).
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by keeping shelves, pallet areas, and workstations neat, and a clean receiving area.
  • Comply with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Work cohesively in a team environment.
  • Provide a high level of attention to detail.
  • Assure safety and security compliance, maintain required safety and security training, and make safety and security an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop or pause work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.

Salary Range: While the posted salary range for this position is broad, it is highly unusual for selected applicants to be hired at the top end of the range and more common for selected candidates to grow into the full salary band over time.

What You Need

  • Education/Experience: Position requires 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Material Management:
    • Demonstrated ability to manage material in accordance with applicable quality assurance and industry standards.
  • Business Systems:
    • Above average computer skills and demonstrated experience with Inventory Control, Material Tracking systems, and proficient in various software suites, including but not limited to, Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Communication:
    • Demonstrated experience and excellence in interacting and communicating both written and orally with customers in a customer service-related setting.
    • Ability to proactively work to assist others in achieving the organization's objectives.
    • Ability to communicate findings and make recommendations.
  • Organizational Skills:
    • Possess high attention to detail including strong organizational, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
    • Proven ability to multi-task and adjust to the workings of a dynamic environment.
  • Additional Skills and Knowledge:
    • General knowledge of supply chain management and resource management practices.
    • Knowledge of inventory management and control practices with an awareness of NQA-1 standards.
    • Knowledge of configuration management, change control, and release management processes.
    • Materials management experience.
    • Ability to work independently and take initiative to perform tasks.
    • Basic knowledge of construction and/or maintenance activities and processing an aptitude toward mechanical and electrical components.
    • Understanding and experience using QA standards.
    • Ability to work and function with a high degree of accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
    • Familiarity with construction disciplines to include electrical, mechanical, and fire protection.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain an HRP certification.

Qualifications We Desire:
  • Ability to obtain a forklift license.
  • Chemical Management.
  • Knowledge of relevant Laboratory procedures, standards. and guides.
  • Familiarity with LANL Management Levels.
  • Knowledge of industry, regulatory, or DOE/NNSA Complex specific codes, standards.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Experience managing material in a nuclear environment and ensuring item traceability.
  • Awareness and willingness to learn supply chain management practices and the appropriate handling of chemicals and storage requirements.
  • An active DOE-Q level clearance.

Term Appointment: This position is for a Term Appointment: hired for periods of up to a maximum of 10 years. Term employees are at-will and may be terminated at any time.

Essential Job Functions: Ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Work Schedule: This position may/will require 24/7 coverage, which could/will involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for the shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2: Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
