Our client, a Automotive Manufacturing company, is looking for a Production Group Leader for their Lansing, MI/Hybrid location.
Responsibilities:
As a Production Group Leader, you are responsible for the effective use of personnel, material, and equipment. Participates in training, developing and evaluating of hourly team members.
Participates in the development of highly effective teams. Leads Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) processes and serves as resource supporting launch and pilot activities in assigned areas.
Meets or exceeds production cost schedule and maintains quality requirements.
Maintains awareness of quality standards, and communicates department quality goals, and leverages resources to solve quality issues.
Builds and maintains good working relationships with employees, union and management.
Understands and consistently administer the National and Local Agreements between the company and and the United Auto Workers Union. Implements and follows systems that prevent reoccurrence of known issues.
Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives for ergonomics, health and safety and housekeeping. Motivates, trains and develops employees to effectively perform their jobs utilizing standardized methods.
Ensure team members receive adequate JIT (job instruction training).
Achieve production schedules and product requirements by applying lean manufacturing/synchronous principles with emphasis on variation reduction, control costs, and achieve productivity improvements.
Understands and follows established processes in their area and knows how to use systems and technologies to accomplish work assignments.
Typically has practical working experience in all processes within their area.
Provides instructions to direct reports on course of action and serves as a resource for them on standardized work, quality standards and processes within the area, as well as relevant company policies and procedures.
Works under moderate level of supervision.
Collaborates effectively with more senior members of the team, seeking guidance and absorbing knowledge to address and solve issues.
Carries out designated routine tasks, ensuring timely completion. Errors in decision-making or failure to achieve desired outcomes may result in schedule delays. Consistently meets unit targets as scheduled.
Offers direct supervision to a unit or team of employees. Addresses and resolves any issues faced by team members, proactively mitigates conflicts to prevent escalation, and assigns tasks while closely monitoring progress at regular intervals.
Proactively anticipates needs of the areas managed, by consistently training and rotating team members to ensure that there is no disruption in the execution of work.
Engages in daily interactions with subordinates and/or peers from other functional groups. These interactions typically involve the exchange or presentation of information.
Handles a range of moderate scope problems that are frequently routine but may vary, requiring analysis of various factors.
Utilizes judgment within established procedures and practices to determine the most suitable course of action. Follows through on difficult situations and is expected to see through resolution.
Proposes new initiatives and leads the delivery of solutions, driving cross team efforts. Recommends opportunities for process improvement to leadership & proactively anticipates needs within own area.
Builds relationships with team members and provides resources to them when needed. Ensures that the team managed is set up for success and approaches resolution to conflict equitably and objectively.
Employee's impact is typically within their immediate work area and occasionally across their function.
Business Group - Multiple different departments, responsible for getting the material of truck, they will deliver material to the line using mobile equipment, supervise hourly team members that give the material to the line to give to production to build the actual cars
Team structure manage upwards of 40 hourly employees, fork trucks and tuggers operations use them, group leaders manage the people who use the mobile equipment, sequence cells where they have hourly operators that sequence material take it to the line themselves.
They will interact with production, quality, possibly body shop departments.
Group leader meeting at the start of every shift
The hourly teams will have a team leader that will review the rotation log and will know where they are going for the day
Using Chronus - this is for timekeeping to see who is on vacation or who did not show up that day, based on this may need to move around some of the operators. Will coordinate with the team leaders on where people need to go, if needed
Documentation - document what is happening throughout the day, fill out an end of shift log, talk to the group leaders on the next shift and talk to them about what they need to be aware of there will be cross shift communications
BPD (Business Plan Deployment) boards - track certain metrics that they need to fill out every day, audits that need to be done, safety/quality audits
Requirements:
Education Requirement: High School Diploma
Years of experience: 1-2 years of experience in manufacturing environment
Previous experience working with a union environment - nice to have
Previous leadership experience - nice to have
Report outs to upper leadership
Meet metrics/goal setting
Problem solving skills - very important to have
Being able to lead a team and being a leader rather than a boss, being able to get the job done, knowing how to speak respectfully to people
1-2 years of experience in manufacturing environment
Computer skills - Excel, PowerPoint, Word
Ability to work cross functionally with other teams
