Description
We are hiring a Production Laborer to work at a facility assisting with the collection of fetal bovine blood used in the production of Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). FBS is an important component used in cell culture and other scientific and research applications.
This position works under veterinary supervision and requires following strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and aseptic collection techniques. The role involves physical work and attention to detail while maintaining safety, cleanliness, and ethical handling procedures.
Heavy lifting is required, including lifting calves weighing approximately 65 70 pounds.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Fetal Blood Collection: Collect blood from bovine fetuses according to established SOPs and best practices using a closed system to minimize contamination.
Preparation & Packing: Complete daily paperwork, pack collected blood into coolers, and prepare shipments to the processing facility.
Inventory Management: Monitor and maintain adequate inventory of collection supplies.
Reporting: Submit required reports such as Weekly Production Analysis Reports to supervisors.
Work Area Setup & Maintenance: Prepare and maintain the collection area to ensure efficient workflow and adherence to sanitation and safety standards.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with plant production staff to coordinate workflow and assist with coverage when needed.
Procedure Compliance: Follow all SOPs and company guidelines related to blood collection and related tasks.
Safety & Ethical Practices: Ensure proper and ethical collection practices, including verifying the fetus is unconscious before procedures and following all regulatory guidelines.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of the number of calves processed.
Working Conditions
Work is performed inside a meat packing facility.
Potential exposure to chemicals and biohazards, requiring proper safety precautions.
Strict aseptic collection techniques must be followed to minimize contamination.
Physical demands include bending, kneeling, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
Note: The collection process occurs during the slaughter process and requires adherence to ethical standards ensuring the fetus is unconscious before blood collection and that all regulations for handling and transportation are followed.
